Like it or not, footy is employment for these guys, and he has just as much right to take personal leave for a family occasion as any of us do.

In a way I think him going to the wedding would be a great example to the young fells - a way of saying yes you may be rich and famous now but if you don't do the right thing now by your family you are going to end up a lonely old screwed up dropkick like Sam Newman.

agreed - Our midfield no longer relies on any one man, and if Stevo needs to be at the wedding, so be it.

Dodo,

Here is what Denis thinks about the Wizard Cup, quoted from Sportal:-

"I said the other night that playing a Grand Final in the Wizard Cup is probably going to be the equivalent to 15 home-and-away games in terms of experience, and the exposure is going to be so beneficial for our young guys."

Vert tough for the great man.
I think it is just employment to these guys, but as with all senior executives on 500k +, family is just in the way.
Stevens may miss the opportunity to ever be Captain, if he declines.
The amount of money up for grabs and the opportunity for his less experienced team mates to play in a premiership (even pre-season) is a massive burden to carry: but equivalent to the load of his desired salary.
He is contracted to play and should play, his brother would have known it was a practice match that weekend anyway.
December is a great time for AFL players and families to arrange to weddings.
If we get belted I can only imagine how bad Stevo will feel.

We seem to forget that the real thing hasnt started yet.....Wether Calrton wins or loses the GF, its meaningless cuase most sides have not rated this comp highly, and most arent happy with its Formatt....

the way i see it, is just another practice game to improve our boys.. the Result to me is so irrelavant......

i would be very disapointed if Nick chose to play.. cuase honestly he doesnt need to..... His brother isnt getting married every day, so family has to come first....

lets not get Carried away Blue Baggers.. the Real Stuff starts in Round 1, dont forget that all teams take a higher Gear whent he real stuff begins and they all bring back their big Guns, so although we have enjoyed such amazing Success at the Wizard Cup, the season games are diferent and our boys will be tested, so lets all sit back and enjoy the game whilst we let Nick enjoy his time with his Family :)

Dodo - your comments are disrespectful to all the players that have put in a 100% effort to win this competition.

Let's deal with facts Dodo, instead of your opinions as to the worthiness of this competition.

1) fact - a premiership is up for grabs
2) to date carlton hasn't won a flag of any description since 1997. That is a long time between drinks
3) stevens is a REQUIRED player as he led or was close to the top of carlton players on the weekend who won contested possessions.
4) the amount of money that is on the line is almost the equivalent of the "proper" season.

Dodo - these are all FACTS - not opinions.

Why don't they move the wedding to the sunday or another day?

Yeah..Sorry about that Korn, I heard it from a really good source and I thought I would pass on what I had heard.

I guess next time I hear some news I shouldnt say anything until, it's oficial.

Please accept my apologies for creating this speculation.

Mods feel free to delete this thread.

The brother who's getting hitched is Justin Stevens according to Caroline Winging in today's Aged.

There is no question Nick Stevens will take his place in the Carlton team that will contest Saturday night's Wizard Cup grand final.

The fate of brother Justin's wedding party was sealed when Carlton moved into an unbeatable position against the Western Bulldogs.

I wonder if Nick Stevens would ever become Captain in the future if he decides to go to his brothers wedding...

I'd expect Denis to respect his decision whatever it is and doubt it would have any further consequences.

I reckon its a game.

Denis is seeing how long he can try to keep everyone guessing when he (and it seems the players) all know what he is going to do.

Great ploy by the Great Man.

Personally, I reckon he'll play, but irrespective, they all know what he is going to do. No distractuions for anyone but West Coast!

This could all be solved if they decided to serve only vegetarian food at the wedding reception.

No one would go.

I'm starting to feel the same thing, "free publicity".. How many times Carlton is getting mentioned on the new, radio and in the papers...

Collo's interview on Sport 927:

http://www.sport927.com.au/gateway/Daily_Audio/Sound%20Grabs/IC_080305.mp3

Makes his wishes known in no uncertain terms. I am pleased that Nick has shown such a strong commitment to the Club (and adds further weight that he should be our next captain IMHO), but I sincerely hope that the decision was Nicks and not the result of pressure from Collo.

same, its a super hard decision to make.

in one hand he has his family to consider

and on the other hand, he has the club to consider. And for a possible future captain of the club, this would weigh heavily on him.

Gee, i hope he has a blinder and gets the Micheal Tuck Medal.

That would cap it off, then he could give that to his brother and new sister in law. Get it framed with the jumper that he wore to the game and present that to his brother and sister in-law.

That would be a bloody ace wedding present and would more than make up for missing out on it.

WTF

Collo..get the live "links" happening....if this is true, I think there's something afoot!
60 minutes?
Telstra's new videoconferencing services?
Optus satellite links?

No probs about Steven's playing his guts out to win...does that anyway!
