This probably makes some people happy... was he doing the best possible with broken down athletes, or will a new perspective fix some of our crocks? Guess time will tell. Thanks for your time and efforts. You oversaw Charlie come back from the brink, so for that we should be forever thankful

This tells me that we are due to win this year's flag.

Russell has won a flag with every team he's been in charge of S & C.

Hasn't won one yet with Carlton...thjis could be perfect planning by Russell, amongst all the negativity thrown his way.

Its not his fault he inherited players whose body can't handle the rigors of AFL.

We ended up 4th last year, after running out of gas in 2nd half of the last game.

Obviously we needed to work on getting us fit for purpose if we were to go another level and catch up with the 3 above us.

Some bodies can't handle it. Move the injury prone, and replace them with players whose bodies are made for AFL.

Our window is open, and will be for a few more years ahead.

Sometimes maybe good. Sometimes maybe shit.

Can’t have been easy with the budget being gutted mid-term.

His replacement will have plenty of toys at his (or her) disposal, if the imaging clinic gets off the ground.

Was given every opportunity, even after last year's review, total autonomy and individualising programs.
With the ongoing recurring injuries, I trust the club had no other choice.

Hope not. Nothing against the bloke, just rather see the money going into the coaching staff. It’s all one budget.

We’ve done Cordy, we’ve done Buttifant, we’ve done Russell. Do we want to add Burgess to the pile?

I think we’d be better off with a role player, rather than another messiah.

Martin hammy again

Charlie shouldn't have played

Finding it hard to get a full read on things given the number of past players I've heard absolutely sing his praises. But really it doesn't surprise me that he's retiring from footy all together after his stint here.

Poor Guy is in Shock- Wondering what the heck is going on.

The Entire Medical staff should be Sacked for giving the Green light to new Players who are Injury Prone and should never have been recruited.

It's gotta be a retirement because he wasn't gonna get a gig next year and his run at Carlton - whatever the cause of the injury issue, it's not a good look if you're the head of S&C - probs meant no one wanted to touch him with a barge pole.

I wonder if there's been some dissent among playing group over him too.

After 6 years of continuous massive injuries I'm thinking he broke them down.

Most injury prone players eventually are sorted and play careers with continuity. All Russel has done is make them more injury prone. 6 years now of non stop massive injuries.

Now from what I am reading in a few places is that he Pu ked up training the last 6 weeks in preparation for finals. Instead of prepared now we are physically cooked and full of injury. Of course, until fact, it is rumour but worth putting out there given it coincides while our decline.

Looks forward see if it is right. Whatever it is it has cost us a genuine shot at a premiership. 4 of the last 5 years were have been cooked 4 to 6 games out.
