what a disappointing game. had all the feels of us drinking our own bathwater. blew them into another dimension in the 1st and then literally stopped playing.

cottrell badly underdone, lots of passengers down from their usual workrate and want to get dirty. walsh and charlie well held, cripps below his best until the last 10 mins, cerra did not much, tdk looked hobbled, hopefully his ankle isn't bad? kemp on hogan was some one of the most baffling decisions all year long from the coaches box. maybe bcos weiters was hobbled. speaking of;

weitering acting like a corkie is an acl for the 3rd time this year really pissed me off too. lol

i think we will bounce back against the dogs and make a statement. an emphatic statement is needed if we're serious about september.

So….

why the %#@$ did Cerra call for the ball
when Cowan was 52m out…?

Cowan had that distance covered easy…!

we were moving at that stage…!

kindest regards tommi

that’s ONE thing…!

In the cold light of day, my big disappointment is that after letting them get back within 9 points, we then kicked a quick two through Cripps and Fantasia, but didn't build on that the way champions do. Yes, the goals were very much against the run of play, and more down to a couple of moments of great individual skill than any substantial change in approach. But that's what a great team does, they say "is that all you've got" and then wrest back control. Instead we just went straight back to being overwhelmed when the situation called for a few minutes of controlled tempo to take the wind out of their sails. Our points against for the season shows we have a serious problem withstanding the tsunami.

My take before the game, and after I saw Vossy's surprise moves in the first quarter, I thought the time was right for Voss to ask a few questions, with 2nd place ours win or lose and try a few things. Maybe that's what he did.

Can TDK win as the sole ruck against a stronger ruckman?
Can we improve our 2nd ruck craft with Cripps, Harry and Kennedy and stop scores against when in they ruck? Can Charlie find a way to score a goal when Harry is in the ruck?
Can Kemp hold a KPF the size of Hogan?
What impact would Weitering have as our intercept defender given he was the best intercept mark in the TAC?
Will Cottrell add run to an already good running team?
Many more questions too re reliable Hewett out, Kennedy as the 3rd tall target.

It is this time of the year we have to try things, now we have troops back, not the week before finals, nor during Finals.

Whatever the lessons this week, Vossy and the coaches came out of this game with learnings and answers. Whatever Vossy decides, he will do so in the next 3 weeks, and then I expect continuity for the following 4 weeks. We have yet to see what Voss tries with Pittonet, Cuningham, Martin, Marchbank, and Motlop in the next 3 weeks? Our real season hasn't started yet.

Also….

if you’re on the goal line…you can push
someone clear in the back…as long as it’s a goal…!

don’t get that rule…!

kindest regards tommi

Starting another post match thread as I only caught a bit of the original one. Although I'm finding reliving the middle part of that game about as palatable as the post goal music they play for the Giants at that stadium......cooked!

Nice little ground though, in a strange way it felt a bit like the old days being at a 30k capacity venue.

Absolute highlight was meeting Sydney Blue, sinbagger, & bondiblue finally after what Syd described as 20 years of talking shit together

Great bunch of fellas the lot of them, & I really enjoyed pretty much getting on the phone to the engravers at quarter time with you guys, even though it turned out to be fleeting

To the game itself, really thought the most important goal GWS got for the night was that one right at the end of Q1, after the turnover from weiters. After that they started running. And deserved the win. They were flag favourites earlier this season for a reason.

That said, incredibly annoying to see us drop the bundle against an opponent missing key players & in poor form leading in. Wanted so much more from Charlie, had one of those games where he just gets worn down & doesn't appear to absolutely bring the heat to fight back.

Walsh quiet, cerra quiet apart from a nice goal in the first. Cottrell looked rusty at the start & missed a couple the possibly could have snuffed the Giants out.

Maybe we're a bit sore at the moment. Got a few knocks against Rich, & weiters seems to get a corkie every game these days. Just got to dust ourselves off & be intense against the Dogs, because that game won't be easy.

PS: Last night when I got back from the game there was 3 pages on this Post Match thread.

I wanted to watch the replay before posting, and respond to some of the posts.

Are the pages going to be reloaded?

Fantasia is usually the one to calm things down in those type of scenarios.

It was three pages of ‘Kemp is awful’, ‘Cottrell came back too soon’ & ‘Ollie Hollands needs to be dropped’.

They won’t be missed.

weiters is the best man-on-man defender in the whole comp. daylight second. other teams would pay him a mil and a half a season to do that job. there's no way you waste him in the intercept role. espesh when you have gov there, who's handy with it.

and the answer to the kemp question is clearly no. even before hogan's 5 goals on him last night, the answer was no.

kemp is by far our weakest link back there. he punches when he should mark, goes the mark when he should punch. can't run and kick, can't think quick when he has the ball, and slows our movement down.

and in saying that, he's still clear of marchbank.

tdk rolled his ankle, and you could see after that, it took his leaping ability away, and slowed him down with his 2nd efforts. when your game relies on athleticism, and it's taken from you, that's what you get.

other than that ... we laid a big egg. we didn't look like we wanted to get dirty or have the appetite last night. really disappointing

Oh wow, they lost? I switched off after Heeney scored his second in a minute, early family dinner and I thought it wasn't just the fish that was cooked. Great news... and I see Loges choked again and Heeney could be in MRO strife... wunderbar!

I wonder if everyone thought of my greatest fear when TDK went down with an ankle in the first quarter, and the possibility of losing him for the rest of the game?

Having to rob our most effective KPF (Harry) to the ruck, and having to take breaks on the bench (not the forward line), and using or losing our best contested player having to share the ruck with Harry?

What were your thoughts?
