Jordan De Goey and Tom Mitchell will both face a fitness test before Friday night’s clash with Carlton.

De Goey is carrying a groin, while Mitchell has foot soreness.

Josh Daicos also trained away from main group before leaving the track early.

All 3 to play and dominate then
Every time we play them all their players that apparently are in doubt come up.

Still remember Ginnivan subbed off with a hamstring the week before the horror show in 2022.

Cerra, Cuningham & Fantasia all a chance to play.

I’m not convinced that Cuningham is a walk up start, but he fits the brief.

The forward 50 entries have to improve.

Collingwood's midifeld has been stodgy, so losing DeGoey and Mitchell out of it might not be a bad thing for them.

Lots of selection issues to ponder:

Cerra is an automatic in, but where does he play? The main midfield trio is Cripps, Walsh, Hewitt, and they're doing more than alright. Does he play as a high half-forward who takes his turn in the midfield rotation? Does he play as a half-back, adding attacking skills to our rebound game?

Either way, where does this leave Kennedy? He can play across most lines, but his only natural position (inside mid) is currently filled. Is he too good a player to leave out? With Cerra in, does that make him the 5th mid?

Fantasia / Durdin / Owies. We all know the small forwards have been our biggest problem so far this year. Threy don't score enough and they don't defend well enough. Have we seen enough of this combination to start thinking about changes? We don't particularly have any other small forwards to play in their place, but we could start thinking outside the box and ask Williams / Cincotta / Cerra / Walsh to play their role? Would we be robbing peter to pay paul?

Ollie Hollands - puts up ridiculous GPS numbers every week, but doesn't make a huge impact? Does he need a spell, and does Binns deserve a run in his place?

Cunningham - if fit, does he come straight back? He's got pace and skill, but his success as a half-forward is somewhat tied to Fogarty doing a lot of the dirty work (they both got picked at about the same time last season and complimented each other well), and Fog is still out.

Young v. S. Durdin - We talk about defense, and the whipping boy for a lack of defensive intent is Young. Do they give Durdin a run instead?

McGovern - straight back in? If so, at whose expense?

Williams - does he need a freshen-up? A change of position for a week? License to roam? A spell in the twos? Given all the hoo-ha about him this week, what do you do - back him in or make a change?

Cerra on midfield rotation with Kennedy, who can also play up forward or back wherever he is needed.
McGovern would replace Young.

The Williams question is an interesting one. Not sure where I read it and who said it (I think it might have been D King). The suggestion was on the basis of "selection integrity" (and certainly considering Voss stinging comments/frustration on the poor defensive effort), Zac is one who could/should be looked at.

FWIW I tend to agree that a spell for Zac should seriously be considered, and maybe one or two other poor defensive performers.

Kennedy’s minutes at half back have been good this year. Better than what he’s done in the front half.

If we get Cerra back, we can let Walsh loose across half forward in bursts. Walsh, Cottrell & at least one Hollands. That’s good pressure on their transition, if they can get it out of our 50.

Not sure about Ollie. He’s not in a high possession role, but his GPS numbers (Telstra Tracker) have been trending in the wrong direction. Sidebottom has been straight up awful this year, so it’ll be a sad day if we’re the ones to play him into form.

There will be some squeaky bum moments, but I think we have to go back to a higher defensive line in open play & back ourselves to bully the contests. Hence Kennedy playing more of a half back role.

Obviously McGovern is crucial to a more aggressive defence, but it’s also the type of set up that Cowan could thrive in.

In any case, fingers crossed we can get at least Cerra back in & we can go back to hunting between the arcs like we were.

You guys are being optimistic if you think McGovern is a chance aren't you?

Not even listed as a test in the injury report.

Based on the above looks like at least five extra AFL players will play VFL which should make them more competitive.

Plus S Durdin and Cincotta who didn’t play vfl last week due to being held out as emergencies (plus Binns who actually played so doesn’t count). The vfl play after the seniors this week so there will be no emergencies missing the vfl game.

Saad's hammy was listed as a 6 weeker and McGovern's as a 2.

I'm backing Saad to return first.
