Surely Not!

The Cats are the real deal this year...They have beaten every team so far BUT then......

There is the Stewart Factor.... His Loss is Massive... he is their number 1 player by far.... It Gives us a chance but I think the Cats will have our measure.....

If we play the same way against GWS ( Second half), we will give them a run for their Money!
He has missed the last couple against us?

Also yes they've won every game but they've had a very easy start.

Weitering on SEN right now doesn't sound overly convincing that he'll be right for Saturday.

Jeez ... that's a huge loss.

we'd basically be running a reserves grade operation at the back without him.

What am I missing with this Toby Greene incident?

He gets there late, he jumps and he doesn't attempt to mark and he collects Boyd in the head? I thought 1 week was extremely lenient.

Not only are they challenging it, but most of the media seem to agree there's nothing to see here.

It seems to me like people are reacting based on what they want the rules to be, rather than what they are. For me it was a clear careless/ high contact/ medium impact combo, 1 week. I don't buy the natural instinct defence... for me the natural instinct of a fair player is to contest the mark.

I'll wait for the injury report before I start worrying too much...

Balls deep is a dangerous approach.

I think Billings is a staunch critic of that method

Must stick with the 2 rucks.
The more time TDK spends in the front half the better he will get.

We can beat these old men

i hope you're right - i feel like it's too early to go all in on it. in a more broader context, we've played two rucks for about a dozen games now, and it's only worked once. last night.

two trains of thought here.

a) the big boys finally learned how to play together and turned the corner.

b) they got lucky last night?

having manic pressure at the feet of the big guys helps, and that help is kinda on the way at some point. fogerty over owies, motlop over durdin.

The MC and the team are working it well. They all are aligned that our game plan (incl when and how we use two ruckman) is a work in progress.

Braithy, I’d like to understand your comment - we’ve had two rucks now for about a dozen contests and it’s worked once……not sure about that. Might be worth understanding what ‘working’ means. We seem to be winning games of football

last season we persisted with tdk and pittonet for around a dozen games - would have been more only injuries, and then last week of course. Of all those games we've lost 10 to my memory, with the only two wins, narrow pantshitting affairs in the finals where it was more sheer will and guts that got us the win, over it being a tactically sound and competitive way of playing.

losing = not working?

I agree, the best proxy for not working is win/loss….although the coach and players will talk about system etc

To your point, losing - means not working, I’m confused by your argument. Taking the last 5 home and away games of last year as one reference point - 1 loss (to GWS) and 4 wins. Pitto and TDK played together in the 4 wins and TDK was solo in the loss.

I am a big believer that we are learning and the right mix will vary week to week. However, your are not representing the facts correctly suggesting it’s only been a losing formula (2 rucks) prior to this week

2 rucks certainly works well if one can play well forward too and hit the scorebaord. TDK does that pretty well. If neither can play forward then you are basically playing one short, hence why Gawn and Grundy didn't work. Helped too that Pittonent also played well around the ground last week.

The ball has to go deep. It’s where we’re at our strongest.
Deeper entries mean that the opposition has to use extra disposals to rebound.
Extra disposals give us more opportunities to turn the ball over.

I remember one play where Charlie had the ball on the wing and H was 1-on-1 in the F50. Charlie drove the ball long to about 15-20m out, but H had led out to about 45m, so the ball ended up going out for a throw in. The commentators rightly called it a miscommunication but I remember being pleased with Charlie because H was being shadowed closely so trying to hit his lead would have meant a high probability of turnover and easy rebound score. I don't remember whether we scored from the stoppage, but we certainly didn't concede. It was smart, mature play from a bloke who doesn't always choose that option.

Absolutely. If there was a miscommunication, it was with the smalls that weren’t on their bikes getting in behind the lead.

Same guy who tried to get Weitering suspended for his first ever final for eye gouging even though he never touched his eye.

Can’t stand the cauliflower

When I listened to the interview I thought Weitering is a fair-good chance to play but Williams is not.

We can live without Williams. Weitering not so much.

I imagine they won’t risk Williams due to the history with his Achilles.

But for Weitering there won’t really be any risk with a corky. He might be a bit sore and his mobility might be impaired, but he dealt with that in the second half last week
