Being in Brisbane I get one game a year, either Bears or Suns. The Gabba crowd suck - and the Suns stadium sucks, sit and stare into the sun, get burnt and then suffer the horrible transport out of the place. I have been flying to Melb for one game a year for a few years though. Marvel mostly unfortunately.

I also dont mind the game on the TV, its how I grew up watching it mostly

Last year we went to all home games from memory and the 2 Melbourne finals.

Good point, I failed to mention that my older two (son and daughter) love going to the games, particularly my daughter. My youngest (8 yo) is not quite ready "I hate the screaming dad".

So this has certainly motivated me more, my oldest has found herself to be part of the pre-match countdown, you can see her screaming over the fence, I think it's on '58' of the 60 second countdown. She pretends to hate it but I know she loves it.

Taking them to Gather Round, second interstate for my son (GC in 2021 first), really looking forward to it.

Last night my eldest sat down next to me on the man room sofa and announced, "I'm going to watch the football with you, daddy!". He stayed put a whole three minutes. But it's a first step towards my goal of taking at least one of them to the footy! Hoping for GWS-Carlton this year.

Your grandfather was a Zebra Captain in 81 82?

Who was he?

I was a mad Zebra fan in the 70's but didn't watch Zebras in 81 82 because I played down the Peninsula on Saturdays in 81 82, whilst I was at Uni, and had to train on Sunday mornings then a few hair of the dogs after that.

Playing senior footy in the 80's meant I missed a lot of the H & A season.

I also had work at the snow Mondays to Fridays for 6 weeks midseason and played no footy at all during that block, to the disdain of my coach, but went to watch Carlton instead of my mates. Went to all the Carlton Finals in 81 82.

Nah, it was a bit before 81 and 81, he was captain in 1925 and 1926, it was Sandringham District Football Club then. IIRC he was offered a place on Melbourne’s list in ‘27 but went farming in the Mallee instead so he could build enough finance to marry my grandmother.

Way back just before the Great Depression. Tough times regardless, when men were men, and .......

   What a guy.

At one stage I barracked for Sandy in Div 1 and Willy in Div 2 after Willy got relegated (loved both teams).
I can't barrack for the Zebras anymore since the VFA was dismantled and they forged a connection with opposition AFL teams.

After moving to the Mallee he tried to play local footy, but they complained that he was too tough and they were scared of him, so he switched to umpiring! True story.

I average 2 or 3 games a year. I haven't been a member for a while and as a result I probably attend less. I went to the three finals last year and enjoyed that. I'll likely get to one or two H&A games again plus finals, but very content with the TV these days.

At Homebush? Cool - I will do my best to be there. Always a chance I might get a hall pass to go with nieces & nephew if my own rugrats aren't up for it.

I'm one of the lucky ones I guess...Have been an AFL Gold member (Carlton Club package) for over 20 years (so I can go to as many games as I wish, not just CFC games) live in Brunswick, a Jeff Fehring torp away from the Number 96 tram which either drops me off at the Imperial hotel at the top of the city (MCG) or right in front of Southern Cross station (Marvel)

I could go to every game with at least one of my two adult sons, and our group of about 6-10 (including mates and adult children)

Do I go?

I probably go to about 8 games a year as my eyesight is shizen and even with glasses, I struggle to see the play clearly at the ground. I also HATE the long walk back to catch the tram at night, especially after a loss. I'm getting old and lazy and sometimes prefer watching on TV, much to the chagrin of a few mates who tell me I'm a fair weather supporter who doesn't want to spend time with his mates

I'm 99Prelim and that's my story

No connection at all these days. The club literally sent out EDMs and social media re: two charter flights + tickets to Brisbane. Membership wasn't required.

About 4 years ago after all our kids finally moved out my wife and I had a great discussion about what we loved and what brought us joy. Family and traveling was a given. She has always loved the city. My answer was my work, eating out at nice restaurants with friends, and watching Carlton at the MCG. We acted on this and bought a lovely apartment in East Melbourne one block from the MCG. I now walk across the road, go to every game, wear a suit so I can drink in the MCC members dining room bar when I’m not sitting with kids and friends, and immerse myself in the joy of watching the mighty blues, just like the joy I had as a kid standing on steel beer cans on the press box wing at Princes Park. The second half of last season including those stupendous two finals wins were just something else. You just can’t beat being there. And if you’re not there you wonder why you weren’t.
