How many goals did these two cost us?

Young is the weakest tackler I’ve seen in a long time and Kemp tries to be too Hollywood. Almost cost us the game with that late turnover

There's definitely something to work with in Kemp.

Don't see much in Young.

I agree on Kemp but we’re challenging for a flag and he still has a long way to go. Ideal talks for the backline for this year is Weiters, Marchbank, McGovern. Kemp can continue his development and learn a little more game awareness before becoming best 22

Kemp is 22 and played 25 games….you persevere with him. Overall he did well. I rate AFL fantasy points as a proxy and he rated reasonably well.

And his 4 clangers were up there, I’d rate Nic Newmans 5 clangers as just as bad. The skipper had 5 himself, he probably deserves to get away with that number

The number of clangers doesn’t tell the whole story. Cripps is at the coal face getting the ball out under all kinds of pressure. He’s always going to have a relatively high number of clangers. It’s the circumstances around the clangers that is relevant. Going for a Hollywood ball when we’re two goals up with a few mins to go and turning it over is not acceptable.

I’m not against Kemp playing, but if we have a better option, ie Marchbank, he has to make way. We are in the window now. We are not playing for the future. Play your best team and if kemp can force his way into that, then great. But right now I’d have Marchbank well ahead

Neither have any poise or awareness.

And Young can't tackle.

Thought we were clearly the better side overall. Got smashed out of the middle, but our use of the ball wasn't that bad. If not for some terrible kicking for goal, would and should have won by a few goals.
Tbh, was worried we'd start the season 0-2. We are 2 zip playing average footy. Heaps of room for improvement, but I'll take that

Must persist with Kemp despite his clangers. Contested intercept marking is absolute Gold. Can’t coach that can’t buy that. Can coach the other stuff out of him. Don’t want to make him too frightened to make a mistake or he’ll start punching everything, not marking when he can and will hold the ball when he has it, not take a risk and just kick it safe 15 metres behind him. Young players are at risk for this.

Does anyone remember Waite’s first 3 years???

We tried hard to lose it but hung in when it mattered. Take ugly wins in Round 2.

Kemp is a keeper for sure Cazz . When the heat and pressure is on Kemp wants the football in his hands . He doesn't leave it for others , he wants to do it himself . A great sign in a young and emerging player . He is not meek .

If you watch the replay you'll see Kemp was pretty @#$%&! good apart from that one horrendous error

And the Dodo man returns for 2024..... :donk: :donk:

Let's be honest guys, We were never going to win this Game if it wasn't for the Tigers breaking down with 3 Injuries. We looked terrible in Defense. Young still looks like a School kid who just doesn't have composure and confidence to go for Marks & Win contests. We also continue to have brain Fades and dumb decisions that are costing us Goals.

Let's just take the 4 points and run.... Can't wait for the Return of our General- Weitering.

We continue to find ways to win games.

Just like good teams do.

I was disappointed in Durdin. With Rich so undermanned I thought he'd come on & kill it, but only saw him briefly.

Cripps super but we don't want to keep relying on him. Thought George started well in the middle but faded. Carroll looks like an absolute win, especially in traffic. Looking forward to him against North.

Charlie had his moments but flower he's just not very smart at all

I think the guy we're really missing is jack Martin. Forward line just seemed lame for the most part.

Funny saying this at Rd 2 but I really think we need the bye. It's been hectic. As others have said, media would have been dreadful if we'd lost that. Because to be fair to Richmond, that was gutsy by them.

Suck shit Shai Bolton though. Massive karma bus delivery right there at the end!!

I count three bad errors - the turnover for Richmond's last goal, the attempted speccie that gifted them an easy goal, and blazing it oobotf from 60m instead of putting it to the top of the square. But I agree he made some good intercepts and got his hands on the ball deep in defence at crucial times.

Gov had a fantastic game. 26 possessions at 92% (many of them high degree of difficulty), topped the team for kicks, metres gained, intercepts and score involvements. Only error I recall was failing to contest a mark against Martin that led to a Richmond goal.

Can someone explain why Charlie's stuff up wasn't a point?
I recall it was paid holding the ball, if that's the case why was it referred to the video?

glad it's over, and i hope i don't have to see young again this year. lol

Billy frampton won a flag.

Depth with talls is required.

Young is required. Fills a role when injuries are present.
2-zip and a week off and returning players in the mix.
Don't mind it. Plenty to like

I still have the image of him running into open goal holding the ball out to doc like a showpony. Was that 2 years ago?

Pros:

We know how to win.
Ball movement.
Tackling. Special mention to Cerra, Newman and Harry.
McGovern and Harry.
Cripps, Newman, Charlie and Kemp were all good.
Terrific last quarter from TDK. Loved how he got forward for 3 scores.
Not really working yet for Fantasia up forward. But loved what I saw when he was up the ground and around the ball. Especially early.
Carroll looks so comfortable at this level.
Ollie was much better this week. Hands much cleaner.
Thought Cottrell did an excellent job on Rioli.

Cons:

Should have won that game by 5 goals.
Inaccuracy and wasted opportunities in forward 50.
Young was exposed close to goal.
