Yeh Charlie looked a little lazy/casual today.

But with his history, why would you go hard in a shits and giggles match, especially when its 35 degrees with a gale?

Agree, I still have my heart in my mouth every time he goes to ground.

Not all CFMEU workers

Don't forget the traffic mgt folk who will be paid quadruple time to hold up a stop sign to usher out the CFMEU workers as they head to their cars and go home

Frankly, I think they should specialise more: 1 specialist holding the Stop signs and another for the Slow sign. Completely different skills - shouldn’t be reverse of same pole. $120k each!

There must be a different rule book for Geelong. For the past few years, they just push the player away from the marking contest and allow their team mate to mark the ball. Not subtle, just a blatant push. Yet when our defenders do it, free kick. Charlie cops it mostly. He's just openly pushed away so he doesn't have an opportunity to contest. :?

It's not a reason that we lost but I get frustrated by the inconsistency of the rule application.

My take after watching the whole game

Moir - good get will play this year at some point.
E Hollands - yep wish he wasn't missing the first 2 weeks.
O Hallands - yep good
Boyd good

Young, sell trade sack I don't care just no more please.
Kemp - worst on the ground.

Other than that hot and blustery who gives a fig!

I liked him. Gave at least 1 away to Moir and looked very lively. I'm not holding out much hope though due to the reliability of his body. If he stays fit, he'll be a big bonus.

Am I the only one seeing Harry McKay as a defender?

And relief ruck?

I've been saying this for a couple of years.
If you can read the ball, mark it, but can't kick a goal.......you're a defender. i.e. McGovern.
He kicked one from about 40m out straight in front and his balance was all over the place, it actually looked like he was either trying to drop the ball with the wrong hand or kicking with his opposite foot it was so bad.

Agree with all of this, except O Hollands is still too easily pushed off the ball and his kicking, especially into F50 is average at best.
He's a competitor which is great, but what's the point if he can't do any damage when he gets it.

Our delivery into F50 is still below par with the same culprits doing their best to miss targets or bomb the ball.
Good to see Harry in the ruck too.

Only a scratch match but I fear it's going to be a long season.

Let's not forget our form in the practice matches last year was a long way off how we ended up.

There's really nothing to read into this. The main thing was Elijah Fantasia Moir all had their moments & we got no injuries

Yep we are still bombing it long unfortunately.

And Geelong sure can get some free kicks. Us nothing. Oh well we should be used to it.

True, but if we want to make top 4 we can't start like we did last year.
I know it's only a scratch match, but the same issues we had last year were present in the praccy game.
Let's hope they kick it up a level in the next one.

Pros:

Looked good for the first 10 minutes.
Harry and Saad were very good.
Cripps a lone hand in midfield.
O. Hollands showed a bit.
A couple of flashes from Mohr.
Motlop, Newman, Boyd, McGovern, Cottrell were okay.

Cons:

Horrible conditions, but Geelong seemed to handle it pretty well.
Dominated after the first 10 minutes.
Beat up around the ball, which is somewhat concerning, since it's one of our strengths.
Numbers around the ball, and ball movement were pretty disappointing. Especially compared with the opposition. Geelong seemed to regularly outnumber us in their forwardline on the fast break. Love to know how many forward 50 marks they took.
Defence looks fairly porous without Weitering.
Kemp had a shocker. Charlie not much better. Continually outbodied in the marking contests, like he was in the final series.
Our kicking into 50 and at goals was poor.
Cowan still doesn't look ready for senior footy.
E. Hollands didn't use it very well.
At least Harry looks like he knows how he wants to kick for goal now. Pity he sprayed it around again.
Would have liked to see Williams.
