Does Hollands know how good Rod Ashman was ? absolute honour to be given that number and he gives it the lemonade and sarse . Disrespectful . The kid needs a history lesson or maybe the blokes issuing numbers need a history lesson . Rod Ashman is a former player who is revered in my eyes .

Rod Ashman ... brilliant footballer

And brilliant person . Still , i should cut Ollie a bit of slack coz his favourite player was Bryce Gibbs who wore number four .

Ashie is a ripping fella

Once upon a time I trained him at work after he left teaching…in return he let me know everything that went on with the blues during the week…..

An absolute gem of a bloke

Yeah, speaking of "feelin' old", still hard to top this...

1982 Premiers
14 Ashman, Rodney
6 Bortolotto, Mario
4 Bosustow, Peter
16 Buckley, Jim
8 Ditchburn, Ross
11 Doull, Bruce
27 English, Des
3 Fitzpatrick, Mike
32 Glascott, David
37 Harmes, Wayne
9 Hunter, Ken
7 Johnston, Wayne
2 Jones, Warren
22 Klomp, Robbert
36 Maclure, Mark
34 Marcou, Alex
13 Maylin, Phil
33 McConville, Peter
15 Perovic, Val
5 Sheldon, Ken

Half the team kicked goals that day.
That doesn't happen anymore...

Ashman one of my faves too, along with the rest of the Mosquito Fleet.
3 flags in 4 years
Legends.

I remember Rod Ash playing some absolutely great games at PP particularly.

Fun facts. He missed the Brownlow by a vote one year AND Peter Dean was his nephew (I think).

Same. My mum always accused me of choosing Carlton because they were top of the pile at the time (started school in 82) but I chose them because of Papa Gino's on Lygon St and because my best mate was a fan. My earliest memory of supporting Carlton was hearing on the car radio that we'd been knocked out of the 83 finals. Then followed years of torment from Hawks and Bummers friends who were the biggest cohorts at my school.

Yeah, my high school years were misery too, although 'book-ended' by success.
Started on the back of the 1972 flag last year in primary school then we didn't win again until the year after I finished.

Missing finals in '74, '77, finishing one and two in '76 & '75 and not making the GF,
my high-school footy years were very tormenting.

I remember trying to salvage a minor consolation that at least the Hawks brought the flag back to Princes Park in '76, '78.
