I think the ‘immediate’ fix for the problem we have when Harry goes into the ruck will be Martin or Moir.

The other problem we have, which exacerbates the first, is that the small forwards are spending too much time on the pine. One of them has got to clench up & play 90-95% game time to bring some continuity to the set up. Direct a bit of space when Charlie is the lone tall and maybe turn those 3 & 4 v 1s into 1 & 2 v 1s… or, god forbid, open up some leading lanes.

For a side that has the last three Coleman Medals running out each week, we are drastically short of scoring IP, but I don’t know there’s a ready-made solution for that in the lower leagues.

Yes Cruz hence my question . If there are no ready to go in the lower comps are there any kids out there overlooked in the draft who would be suitable long term projects . Once upon a time "Ol mate Cazz used to be all over this sort of stuff .

There's a great summary of opportunity for MSD in afl.com.au today

For example

Quote:
GEELONG Falcons forward Will McLachlan has jumped into mid-season draft contention with a run of early form in the Coates Talent League.

McLachlan, who was overlooked last season, is a medium forward and has kicked 11 goals across the past two weeks.

His six-goal haul against Murray Bushrangers on Sunday showed his marking strength and natural goal sense and saw him take his season tally to 13 goals so far in 2024.

There's more to thge solution than filling in spots with a body. We require the talent and the availability to fill the void when Harry is in the ruck.

Not sure if Moir will 'fix' the problem this year, from what I've seen. Sure he has a good highlights reel, and kicks a goal in the VFL, but the standard of his defensive game which in Vossy's set up is a non negotiable in the forwardline, (and we will miss from Fogarty whilst he's out injured). Adding Moir may exacebate the void left by Fogarty. I think this year is a development year for Moir and expecting him to shine as an 18yo...he isnt in the same league as a No 1 pick like Reid and Walsh.

Martin can if and when he's fit. That's 5 weeks away if he can stay fit.

The 3rd banana is a hole since SOS went down and when Harry goes forward there's 2 holes imo.

I personally would've waited until the back-end of the season - he needs to do more IMO.

He played probably his best game vs GWS but was a complete passenger last week.

I'm OK with two years, but he needs to kick the sort of goals that he has missed the last two weeks - one in the last qtr versus GWS after Cripper extracted the ball from the centre and then the set shot start of the last qtr last week.

I reckon his other shot against Geelong, the the crumb & snap, is the one you want to see him hitting.

Massive team lifters & equally deflating for the opposition.

I’ve been watching Legends of the jumper punch and the interview with Shane Robertson was a ripper.
Robertson has been coaching in the Central Highlands league for 30 years and in his time has not seen one AFL recruiter watch a game
He reckons that many footballers he has coached and seen could of played AFL

So with that in mind why is it that AFL clubs not pay someone like Robertson who has now retired from coaching 10 grand some petrol money to watch games in that league report back to Carlton’s recruitment team in July and have one of them come and watch some earmarked players
Do that for 40 country and city comps
Would cost 400000 dollars
The club could probably pick up 2 or 3 good early 20 ‘s aged players hungry for success
I say all this with Fantasia in mind
No disrespect to him but he clearly is cooked
It is so stupid to give up a spot on our list to recruit a guy who is done
Like Fasolo
Just because their known and have played AFL

Bottom line all Victorian clubs are going to have to think outside the recruiting box with Tassie coming in

Probably because Robbo is a lunatic & the first time he gets told ‘thanks, but no thanks’ he would be shopping all of that bought IP to the rest of the comp.

At least he doesn’t live behind a mask like many in the AFL system
He admits in the interview he has [REDACTED] up

Here is the point you conveniently ignored
There are probably one hundred footballers in country and metropolitan leagues in their early 20’s who would be better than Fantasia
Williams ain’t far behind
I’be said for years they recruiters should value every spot on a list
Case in point we have 2 starting small forwards out for extended periods so Fantasia gets a game
He is done should be retired from the AFL system

Never mind 100, if you can find 10, I’ll concede the point.
