Gawn is a ruckman...I don't need to be told that...BUT...he is a fantastic contested mark, a reasonable kick and a nightmare to defend I30

As a ruckman, he is also adept at tapping the ball to smalls if he couldn't mark it. While he was spending time fwd, Grundy could've been rucking

But nooooooooooooooo...apparently Tom McDonald was the answer...FMD FMD...the premiership was already half way there to Coll on that fateful night

The entire eqiuilibrium of the finals shifted Collingwood's way that night

Great year for us but our season came down to what happen mid-season losing 8 from 9. Come good in a big way but was too much. When you have 6 of your best out and flog Collingwood as we did you can only think about what might have been.

In footy, as in life, no one EVER reaches the top of the mountain without paying a price.
CFC have paid quite a lot last couple of decades !
Really hope this group has the desire, courage and impetus to continue our incremental improvement of the last 2 years.
I want 2024 to be like 1968, dawn of new era.

Just out of curiosity, seeming as how we will undoubtedly get more prime time games next year..... can anyone tell me our record for both day and night games in games at home or away in Voss' tenure.
And compare that to say the 3 previous seasons ?
I have a theory rambling around in the windmills of my mind ....

What a roller coaster!
Before the season started, I had par set at winning a final.
Half way through, I was focused on which draft picks for next year and which coaches were available (I was mainly looking at the assistants to be fair).
By the end, I was dreaming BIG but in the end I think we just had too much catch up to do with no margin for error.
And even then, we weren’t miles off the pace.
We finished up with a birdie.

Before we get onto next season, I just want to acknowledge two things:
1) I think AR and his crew have done a very solid job. Who would have believed we’d get 2 full seasons out of Charlie, a full season out of McGovern, that Marchbank & Cunningham would string together games like they have, and that Walsh would get back to his best after his back injury that many observers thought could threaten his whole career?? Even the best teams were hit with hamstring injuries or worse towards the business end. We did pretty well, even as some of our bodies started to fall apart.
2) Given how important the Pies’ off-season recruits proved to be, I think we need to back off a little on the criticism of some of our lesser lights and the recruiters who brought them in. None of Bobby Hill, Tom Mitchell, McStay and certainly Frampton would have escaped our harshest criticism during the year and the recruiters who brought them in would have been slammed on this site. Turns out, they all contributed to a premiership.

Looking forward to next year, we have some tweaking to do on our turnover game - hopefully, thought, we don’t throw the baby out with the bath water like we did earlier this year in response to our last minute losses towards the end of last season.

We need to turn this year into a launchpad for our mental resilience.

We need to always remember that 5% off is not good enough.

Next year, par for me is a top 4 finish. And obviously, the target is no.17!

6 Carlton players made the Top 100 in the AFL Player rankings.

Great news Harry has pledged to fix up his goal kicking. Not maybe.

Surprised Nic Newman and Blake Acres didnt make the Top 100. They both had outstanding years.

Looks like 2023 was the paltform to make our true assault for the 17th Flag, and maybe the start of a dynasty.

Jacob Weitering - 89th best player in the league? If he was only the 89th best player in the league then I am a unicorn that studies Aristotle in Arabic.



Do they give details on why they rate Weitering so poorly? He had a poor couple of weeks mid-season, but more than redeemed himself if you look at the stats. He led the league in marks for starters.

Weitering 208 marks
that was about 70 more than Darcy Moore, more than Harris Andrews,

Every one seems to rate Weitering poorly...he always misses out on All-Australian despite being arguably the best intercept defender in the league.

I think they did well to recover but still have concerns going into 2024. The draft period has been underwhelming to say the least.
We have taken the approach that 2023 list is good enough for 2024.
2024 will be tougher to make 8 than 2023 .

We enter next year hoping McKay sort out his yips , Williams gets on the park. The recruited drug courier sorts out his ways and a 28 year old forward pocket who has played 4 games as sub gets fit enough to contribute.

2023 was a good recovery from what was a disaster. But once again we enter next year with high expectations. We know they can play when expectations are low but right from round 1 people will be expecting to win.
This team has a history of failure when that happens

I think we need to look at the now & to the future. The past is behind us, as Vossy said, we are done with hurting we need to stay inspired.

Maybe it's my rose coloured glasses but I genuinely think this football club can win a flag in 2024. With the addition of Williams back in the team, both Hollands (one in & one improving)
Harry should be much improved, Fantasia staying healthy and adding some excitement, hopefully close to a full season from Martin, natural improvement in Motlop, Binns etc.

I am hoping this team can improve just like Collingwood did from 2022 to 2023.

Carlton is my (totally unbiased) tip for the flag. There's so much to be excited about!

Have faith, this team has made a transformation and there's no going back to where we were.

I can't remember being so excited for a footy season to start, with so much time to pass..

I'm just hoping the 89th best player in the league in Jacob Weitering has a good season next year.

Hope he can rise to be at least the 72nd best player and maybe get chosen in the initial AFL All-Australian squad.

Weitering makes the AA squad of 40 players and is rated 89th. Ridiculous. Reflects the value of AFL ratings. Those ratings seem to miss a lot. Hence those relying on pure stats to support their argument are offering just plain old fools gold.

It's a farce that Weitering receives little recognition. Absolute disgrace but what else do we expect.

You should call them at the membership department.

They are pretty responsive there and have good phone manners. They listen and they try and help. Whoever hired people for that department did a good job.

One hundred percent agree " Tap " . I and all of my family have already received our 24" memberships . Whether you phone them or go in personally to the shop they can't do enough for you . As you say , they listen and treat like a person rather than a number . They do a great job .
