While we in the footy world are saddened by the death of the GREAT Ronald Dale Barassi, we (Carlton)
lost another.
Donny Nicholls, brother of you know who has passed away.
Donny didn't reach the heights John did, but he did play 77 games for the Blues, no mean feat.
Legend has it Carlton recruiter Newton Chandler arrived at the Nicholls' home in Maryborough, seeking the signature of a promising centreman, Don Nicholls. Mr Nicholls had to give his consent to Donny's recuitment. He did so on the proviso that the Blues also consider taking '' the big fat kid on the bike in the back yard''.
While I can't claim that is ''exactly'' how it went down , it's a great Carlton story.
RIP Donny.

A great story, indeed.

RIP Don Nicholls
