THIS TEAM IS THE BEST DEFENSIVELY IN MODERN CARLTON HISTORY

We are presently averaging 71.6 pts against per game

1. Only one previous season in 55 years have we had less 100 pt scores kicked against us than this one - so far this year only twice.

2. if we keep GC & GWS to under 52 pts (avg) then there will have been only 6 teams in 55 years of VFL/AFL with lower against scores!

3. NO premiership team has had a lower against score than this since the 1968 Carlton one
(which was the last year before "out on the full" frees were introduced, subsequently boosting scoring by making teams go more direct)

re # 1. effectively it is the Same team because the other Carlton team with less 100 pt scores against was the 2022 team!

So nobody is putting their balls on the table picking us to go all the way?

So... firstly, to those jokesters who imagined us reversing last year's pattern and winning 8 matches in the second half of this season, kudos! I couldn't see us winning 3 more at that point!

Secondly, I think we COULD go all the way but a lot has to go right throughout the coming 7 weeks which is a tough ask. Including, minimal injuries to important players, winning interstate (starting with this weekend but also potentially against a top 4 team in their patch), maintaining our form presumably after spending a lot of petrol tickets getting there.*
However, my 'par' for this season at the beginning of the year was to win a final. So, TBH, I'll be happy with that.
HOWEVER, given our form over the last few weeks, I will still be disappointed if we don't get to a prelim.

* If we can get all our injured stars back on the field, it may turn out to be a blessing in disguise - with 5 or 6 relatively fresh players lifting a team that has been busting its collective gut for the past few months...

Just goes to show my earlier prognostication that the Final 8 is just a misleading fraud to give hope to suckers.
If you're not one of the three best teams after a full season of matches- you not only have no chance but really, what are you expecting?

The only exception would be a late-charging phenomenon like the Mighty 2023 Blues!

We won't lose another game and claim yet another 'record'.

Look yes it's right it's nearly impossible to win the main prize but you get finals experience and if there was only a top 5 a lot of teams would miss out on that experience

I'm sticking to my belief that we have the list, and with a bit of luck (like Marchy's touch), we will be undefeated for the remainder of the year.

We have the team to pull it off. Now we have genuine momentum. Who is in our way? We will just work hard and push them out of the way.

I really want to see us win both these last two matches. Not because we have to win both, but b/c I'm hoping our mindset is to win at all costs, every time.
Takes a while for me to truly believe, given our last 20years!
(I remember it took a while for people to have faith in the Dees as they built their winning record in 2021; and from memory even in 1995 when we won all but 2 games...)

The more teams play in finals type matches, where the heat is ratcheted up, the more they get used to it and thrive.
The game against Melb the other night was finals like, and will be great for the team.
They will gain confidence out of the fact they won such a tough game.
Tough, low score, where every opportunity to gain connectivity with teammates is rare and the players have to maximise those opportunities.
