As prompted by GreatEx here....
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=37497&p=2178990#p2178990

Another record to add to our 2023 list:

This team is the first to follow up a losing streak of 6 games with a winning streak of 8.

Great job boys.

Thought I'd flesh that out a bit more with the who & when...

Image

As Jake said, should we win this year we "blow this up" claiming 10 of those spots from Rds 10-19

And another record in the offing: as you can see from above, no team has won the flag having been 15th at any time during the season!

And just like our 1945 forebears didn't climb into the top 8 this year until Rd 20.

You will probably find this very hard to believe but..

This is only the 3rd time in 30 years we have beaten the Minor Premiers!
Previously 2001, 1994

Also this is only the 5th time we've beaten 3 of the final top 4 in the last 30 years.
2009, 2001, 1995, 1994.

Yes, we used to do more of this previously in the Golden Years:
now the 12th season we've beaten eventual Minor Premiers in last 50 years
Defeating 3 of final top 4: 11 times in last 50 years.

This is a very special team we are witnessing.

Our defence let me down a little on Saturday.

Was all fired up to post another 'record': we could have equalled the longest winning run of keeping opposition below 80 pts in the last 50 years but alas.

So, for the record we got equal* 2nd best in 50 years with 8 winning games and opponents <80

Melbourne in 2021 did 9.

* unfortunately Filth also did it this year
then back to Aints in 2009 and Geelong 2007/8 all did 8 as well but no-one else in 50 years.
Previous best was Carlton with 10 in 1968.
And if you're really fussy the all time record was Melbourne in 1956 with 13.

As we all know, defeating GWS would have taken us to 10 straight wins.

So sadly we don't add to our previous group of 13 streaks of 10 or more which has these Premiership connections:

8 of those streaks involved 9 Premiership teams
1907-1908 streak of 15, our 2nd best which crossed two Premiership seasons
1914 - 12
1915 - 10
1938 (1937-8) - 10
1945 - 10 (inc. rd.1 1946)
1968 - 10
1987 - 12
1995 - 18 (inc. rd.2 1996)

The other 5 were either Grand Finals - 1932 (11), 1969 (10)
or within 3 years of GFs - 1942 (10), 1975 (10), 2000 (13)

And the other 7 flag years?
Not too shabby either...
1906 - 2 x streaks of 6, one ending in GF
1947 - 2 x streaks of 6
1970 - 8
1972 - 8 (with 11/12)
1979 - 8 (with 12/13)
1982 - 8

1981 is the "odd man out" - best was only 5, but won 7 of last 8 (inc. last 4)

Update

Added this to front page:

First team to climb 10 ladder positions after the half way mark of the season.

ref. AFL Tables "Rises within Season"
https://afltables.com/afl/seas/ladders/ ... .html#fluc

Incidentally, GWS & Sydney also had big rises this year: 8 and 7 places respectively.

Geelong had the equal 6th biggest fall of all time within a season dropping 7 places, followed by Essenflog with 6.

On the Down side:

Every other club has had time at the top of the ladder since Carlton last did 338 rounds ago.

And more sadly...

No other club in ANY of Australia's 'footy' codes - AFL, NRL, Rugby Union or A-League has waited LONGER to play in a Grand Final in their code than the Carlton Football Club

Did you have to mention the last point?

....and we've still won 23 Premierships....16 in the VFL/AFL. Got to give other teams a chance whilst we are drinking out of our cups....maybe one of the cups had bath water.

It's all MY fault actually.
I'll finally confess.

Our table at the Radisson President Hotel on Grand Final night 1995 was slap bang next to the table with the Cup on it.
Drank more champers out of that sucker than a man has a right to.

At the end of the night I said to my family: "I can die happy now, don't need more than this. We are the undisputed rulers of the AFL/VFL"

I have regretted those words in the long absence since more than you can imagine.

I am Deeply, Truly SORRY.

Not only did we win the flag in 45, in 44 we lost in the final home and away game by a point to fall out of the finals. The dogs took our spot.
Just give us the cup!

Great post jezza.
Season '23 just keeps on giving eh?

rhino27: parallels to '45 have been visible for sure.
However, '44 we were out of the top 4 in first 3 rounds whereas last year we were in top 8 right to the bitter ugly end.

Incidentally, 1977 was an exact copy of last year: in all season until the last round.
Although we did not not go all the way the following year we DID go on to win 3 flags within 5 years.

I'll gladly take Any combination of the above!

dunno if this has been brought up b4 but...

Friday's game was the second biggest AFL/VFL Friday Night crowd of all time.

Gee/Coll Prel. Final Fri 21st Sept. 2007 - 98,002 the only one bigger.

PLUS...

Also the Biggest Semi-Final crowd since 1971!

Crowd sizes were nuts in late '60s - early '70s with heaps more standing room available.
All but one of the 8 x semi finals 1968-1971 had attendances above 99,000
Added to those only two other semis ('65, '67) have ever had bigger crowds
than the Carlton/Melbourne Semi Final last Friday.

In fact NO Preliminary Final except the 2007 one above, has exceeded this game's attendance since 1973!

Truly a classic historical match.
