I am glad Serong got a week for his sling on Cera. That was so unnecessary, and a slightly harder hit on the head and we risk losing Cera with concussion in this game and out next week.

Rubbish effort from Serong.

Disagree it was a bullshit suspension
I think they will appeal and get off.

 So if his head hits the ground a fraction harder and he gets concussion, you say ‘play on’?

What was the point of smashing him to the ground with one arm pinned and the other holding the ball. How does he protect himself?

Regards Cazzesman
You may have seen a different angle to me but it was a simple tackle where they both went to ground a Cerra head made contact.
There was no malicious intention and no slinging motion.
It will get appealed and tossed out

Halfway down the page is the video. Watch the second angle. More good luck than good management he wasn’t concussed.

Its the " Chicken Wing " tackle isn't it . Notice it has made a big comeback this year . Seen a lot of it this year . When it was the rage a few years back there was a mighty hullabaloo how dangerous it was and rightly so . The Chicken wing has come back this year and for some reason it seems it is acceptable . Reckon it is super dangerous when you grab a bloke by one arm and slam him headfirst into the ground . Gotta be able to protect yourself .

To me its the dumping style tackle that's completely unnecessary. In that situation there is no need to bring cerra to ground. Could just wrap him up. He isn't going anywhere. This is the type of tackle I noticed stkilda executing a lot of. At least in one of the games I watched

So it should have. Definitely a second act in that tackle that could have injured. Cerra is lucky and so are we that he wasn't injured.
Should have been a free kick as well. Just terrible umpiring - again.

Serong's defense of the tackle was average at best. Off balance/tried to protect him......pfttttt!

I think he also said he would have been dragged if he didn't do it...

That was the most ludicrous part of his argument.
Players don't get dragged these days. You just wrap your arms around them after the game if they stuff up and tell them its all good.

Yep. Laughable defence. He was off balance because he was tackled while he was in the air. As a consequence he landed awkwardly and had no strength to brace for the tackle. I agree Serong didn't do a lot wrong but he put Cerra in a vulnerable position that prevented him protecting himself. In reality he virtually lifted Cerra's legs beyond the horizontal which is severely frowned upon in Rugby League as it has potential for significant injury. 1 week or a significant fines around the mark for me.

In this day and age of interchange and runner restrictions perhaps was concerned he would have a big sign with f@#$&*! Or some obscure emoji on it directed towards him

A quick two cents on that tackle:

I think the AFL could put this issue to bed with some clearer instruction on what's allowed (well, derr, you say...).

It is possible to 'sling' (depending on your definition of 'sling') someone (swing, maybe) without bringing their head anywhere near the ground. Serong provided a perfect example - don't upend your opponent with your own leg. No helping leg, no hoist, no spear, no issue.

Get everyone practising the no-hoist method. (Shame it wasn't Hill as the offender.)
