Has the Club been involved in this and are they comfortable with it?
My concern at the time of the TBV break-up was that Clubs were vulnerable to opportunists ahead of the renewal of Internet site..
Comments would be appreciated....cheers
I have not had any formal talks to the club about this particular website. I was going to have a chat to the communications guys about it at our next meeting. At the moment the site is basically a blank canvas and will take some time to fill. If CFC communications want me to change any aspect of the site I will change it, if they want me to shut it down I will shut it down. I do not see the communications department having any problems with the website, and if they do they will let me know about it.
I am aware of the issues surrounding not being a competitor to the CFC site, which is why I mention it on the title page in the sentence you quote.
The intention of the site on my part is to build up a detailed history of the CFC. If you have a look at the history section on the CFC site it is pretty sparse on detail. I am hoping we can provide for the club the best online history of any of the AFL clubs. In the future I was hoping that the website could be donated to the club so they could use the database to use for their own purposes. Seeing as I already have a connection with the club as a contributor of the site they know of my concerns in that area. I am working with the club on another project at the moment involving another carlton-themed website which will hopefully be of significant benefit to the club, I know that people in the club are excited by this idea. Hopefully it will be revealed within a few weeks. The reason I mention this is that I love working for the club as a volunteer and see an opportunity to help them out in an area where they have little to no resources. The Blueseum is also in that category.
I have set 'hotwords' up on blueseum so that every time the word Carlton Football Club is mentioned in the content it will automatically become a hyperlink to the CFC website. As you can see on the site the CFC website, membership and CFC shop all have a prominent link at the top of the page.
I am fully expecting that most of the content will come from myself (hopefully others will be interested and contribute though). The site will probably take several years to complete.
There is no intention to ever put advertising on the site because:
a) it only costs me $20 a year to run
b) I know it would destroy a site that has been community built
Hopefully, the site will grow to be many thousands of pages, which means thousands of pages linking to the CFC site (before any integration), this not only provides visitors to the CFC site but also helps the CFC site with its search engine rankings.
I am not sure how clear or unclear that all is, let me know if there is anything I have missed or any concerns that may have been raised by this.
