Enjoyed the day as we played like a team and played differently.
For start, we played a more unselfish brand. Charlie was the pinnacle of that today.
Secondly, we ran and used the corridor but more importantly, we used the shorter option more, especially into the F50. It was a joy to watch.
Thirdly, Martin & Cuningham added run and polish. Best game from Walsh this year. Kennedy and Cerra playing more where they should be. Cripps moved forward and allowed others into the middle - well done! Back to team footy.
Our coaches got it right, I feel GC didn't do their homework.

No-one can tell me, that playing like a team doesn't bring the bottom players into the game more and more important, that we don't have the players to play finals. That's just bulldust.

MVP: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=37820

gro has found an extra step tonight.
To-night?
Its still daylight in the east, so I'm guessing its full on sunny out west, so, I should say to-Day.

WE know the mids feasted today, in every stat, thankfully that included goals and score assists this week: bad luck Walsy, with goals but highest SI's..

I still can't believe the impact these guys have had:

a half baked Martin (Cyril type impact/cameo)
a fresh off the shelf freshly baked Cuningham ( whose kicking was a tad rusty), but bloody comforting knowing the wheels he has under him.
a reconditioned Geelong inside mid, in Fogarty
a reconditioned Pick 3, inside mid, Dow, 8 disposals at 87% / 120 metres, 3 CP's, and a clearance, 3 i50's, 4 scoring involvements...20 mins play, fresh.
a mature, Cat B Basketball player, Owies, who has had years of developed laid the most tackles, SIX, and kicked 2 goals and 2 goal assists
a mature player from the midseason draft, make it 2: Cincotta & Boyd.

Says it all to me...the bottom 6 or 7, are as important as the top 6, 12 and whatever is the number.

But TDK's body & mind wree one tonight, and his heart for Carlton showed tonight.

Today a selfless brotherhood shined as .......fk I'm happy and its still daylight

That was fun. Felt like we finally burst through after some good efforts over last week or so

Once the belief and reward for effort came we were away. Hard to judge opposition effort but we were very good.

What i liked:

1. Midfield rotations. Normally only one of Cripps/Kennedy in midfield at a time with them spending time up forwrad. Cerra Walsh Fogarty Cuningham Dow all doing well in middle
2. Cuningham Martin Fogarty Cottrell all did their bit (but still need to be more consistent)
3. Pressure and tackling along with numbers at contest
4. Looked more for a player than bombing it inside 50
5. Defence back to it's calm and team best
6. I see massive upside in Boyd Kemp & Cincotta
7. Cripps/Kennedy were played as impact players. Bursts in the middle. Makes them more effective and allows us to play quicker

As I have said I don't think we are far away. Voss has definitely changed things up and it's take us a little while to be proactive again but it's happening
Selection was also better and based on form

Needs to happen week in week out but a positive day

I have been waiting for the day when we played a HF line of Cunningham, Curnow and Martin. Not saying it was the reason for the win but ability to create space and be composed with the football impacts the team and you don't need many possessions to make an impact. The side looked quick and purposeful in its ball movement today. Good signs

Go BLUES!

Its amazing what confidence will do. I just hope its not a flash in the pan.

However, I must be watching a different player. In my opinion Fogarty was very average.

Dow got 8 possessions in 15 minutes (230m gained). I bet he gets dropped.

I thought some of Fogs tackles and handballs were important for us

Agree Boyd Cincotta and Kemp must play every week all add something to the side

If we could ever get martin and Cunningham fit they add a different look and skill set to the side -good today but I want to see 5 weeks of it in the seniors with no injuries

Cerra is an excellent player and winning b&f by the length of the straight

Walsh best game for the year

Decided to tackle with intent today
Weitering another good game

Fattening up TDK and McGovern

Much better today than the last month.
Midfield were back closer to their best especially in that second quarter which was a throw back to first half of 2022.
Finally some competent goal kicking which can hopefully build some confidence.
Cerra best on again I thought.
Vast majority did their job today.
Great to see Cuningham back and thought he looked pretty good given 2 years between drinks.

Pros:

Finally the dam has broken. Makes a huge difference when you're on the right side of the accuracy ledger.
Midfield goals.
Midfield dominance after quarter time, especially centre clearances.
Tackling. Not just the numbers, but also the aggression.
With recent additions looked much quicker.
Walsh, Docherty, Cerra, Weiters.
Loved the aggression in the air from Kemp and McGovern.
Good game from Cottrell and TDK. Marked the ball well today.
Loved the defensive dash from Cincotta and Boyd.
Martin's forward class.
Great to see Cuningham get through. His disposal was off, but loved seeing him glide through traffic.
Good last quarter from Dow.
Gold Coast allowed Saad to roam free.

Cons:

Fairly limp 1st quarter.
Found the tv coverage a bit annoying at times. Maybe I'm just getting too old. But couple of times they'd have a long shot, where I can barely see what was happening.

I had a really enjoyable day today.
Not sure what was said at 1/4 time but they came out a different team after that. The 2nd quarter was one of the best we have played for a while.
The players looked like they were enjoying themselves too. What a contrast to last week. The team was booed off the ground this week a standing ovation at half time.
Everyone played their role and played as a team.
We get to enjoy 2 weeks of this.
Go blues.

We kicked as many goals this week as we have the last 3 weeks combined.

A few individuals kicked more today than they had for the season combined

Good game against an opposition that really dropped its bundle. I've been as dirty on the team as I ever have been these last few weeks, but must admit it's amazing what a difference a few tweaks to our small/medium stocks does to our overall game.

This was a very good win. Our confidence coming into this game was sapped.

Alot of pressure at the ball ... good attack on the ball ... good numbers ... strong tackling

Very good execution at goal

Hope this builds our confidence

for me ... there was a few things happening today.

GC had no idea how to play the G. they suddenly couldn't cover the flanks and the corridor, so hedged on the flanks. which made it easy for us to move the ball. But! that isn't possible without getting the balance right at the back.

weiters in the gorilla role
kemp playing 2nd tall
gov roaming & intercepting

smalls with run and carry and delivery swarming all around the ball in our our back 50. and then rebounding with purpose.

Fogerty better than durdin & motlop combined at roving the fast moving ball into our forward line.

martin is what we've missed up front. composure to take a step and find the right delivery and not just blast it blindly up in the air,

was a great game and hte blance was just right. players fought and tackled and didn't take a step back.

Cerra is a @#$%&! stud.

Glad I went, most enjoyable and relaxed day at the football.
GC hardly ever get to play at the MCG so big advantage to us.
Crowd only 29K and with 89.7K members it shows that many Blues supporters had bailed. I nearly did but happy I turned up.
Mood elevating, better that Prozac.

The deliciousness is that i was contemplating taking my three daughters (they say it gets better, it gets worse) to the game on the Goldy in a a couple of months. Was packing it there might be a crowd. Delicious

At the risk of being negative I thought Walsh's last 5 mins was poor. He seemed hellbent on kicking a goal for himself.

I notice Jimmy Bartel said something a few weeks back about how good teams play unselfish football and how Carlton aren't there yet.

Well Walsh as good as his game was could have probably set up 2 goals instead of trying to kick a goal for himself.

He should take a leaf out of Charlie's book. He's in the running for the Coleman again and had a set shot from 20m out but handballed to a teammate who was alone running towards goal. Unselfish.

Prior to that 3peat onslaught for agoal he had 9 other score involvements.

The mids must have made a pact, that all of them would score???
And they did except BOG Walsh.
IMO He earned the right to have a ping imo, and another, and another coz.....it was important for the group of mids.

Cerra 2
Cripps 3
Kennedy 1
Walsh 0.2

I'm just guessing but I get where you are coming from: make selflessness our mantra.
