Glad I went, most enjoyable and relaxed day at the football.
GC hardly ever get to play at the MCG so big advantage to us.
Crowd only 29K and with 89.7K members it shows that many Blues supporters had bailed. I nearly did but happy I turned up.
Mood elevating, better that Prozac.

Luck you Ricky you make it fine as Carlton make it fine. oh Ricky

I wish I was there

I went again, and it was nice to have some reward for turning up week in, week out, and putting up with the rot we've been served up recently.

I'm not getting carried away. GC were very ordinary today. We played well but they let us walk all over them.

Still, it was nice to see some run and carry and support for one another. The tackling was much improved and there weren't the usual 20 broken tackles we've become accustomed to.

Most pleasing was reward for effort. And like missing becomes infectious, so did nailing then today. No deflation today.

I thought Cerra was best on. He continues his great year. Not getting the plaudits from the media that he deserves, but that's fine. Cripps looked more like his brownlow version of himself, at least after quarter time.

I also thought TDK played his best game for the year. As did Weiters who was superb.

Agree with others that said it was far more selfless game. Hopefully, this is more than a flash in the pan. At least they go into the bye feeling a little bit better about themselves.

GC have been a bit of a bogey side for us, even though they were a bag of spuds today good to get a convincing win.

Also a relief to finally kick reasonably accurately today.

I’ll add, not sure if it was obvious on the TV but the cheer when Dow got the ball at the centre was just great stuff. The message was there for our coaches. Well done to all.

Like I said in the pre match thread, I went to the game after hiatus of many many years.

The players didn’t fall into a massive pothole by me being there which was nice.

BOG for me was Cerra followed by Doc. Cripps enjoying some goal time was nice. Our small forwards still don’t play smart footy. They are never at the feet of our talks. I was expecting Cas to have a Brad Moran game. Fortunately that was avoided.

Not sure whether the bye is a good or bad thing.

doc played great - didn't see him in any centre bounces and played a defensive role which is his zone.

cerra is becoming our best. gets lots of footy, slick, classy left or right, always finds a man. i thought it was strange buying him when we already had walsh, but in a way he's overtaken walsh imo

Didn't watch game live I was getting updates on app
Managed to watch replay in rain delay of cricket - Seriously didn't know if I should laugh or cry .
It is just typical of this team when the expectations are lowered and there is nothing on the line they play unbelievable football.
Admittedly the opposition wasn't great .

but don't allow yourself to get sucked in - we may get on a roll and win a few games but the moment it looks like we might be a chance to get in a position to challenge for the 8 they will bottle it .

Probably the most balanced side we have fielded all year - lets hope Martin and Cunners can get a clear run at it

Cripps positioning at centre bounces was a lot better

We didn't go - haven't been in a few weeks now, husband is in protest mode and I'm realising how much more time I have on the weekend

But well done to those who did.

The crowd was just under 30k and it's getting laughed at, but I reckon that's a good crowd for a club who's lost 6 in a row v the lowest drawing interstate team.
Norf v WBD got 23k, for example.

I really hope we have turned the corner but I suspect any improvement won't be a complete turnaround, and I am a little dubious of what happened on the weekend given Gold Coast's pressure was terrible, our first quarter was terrible, and late in the game I thought the players lost their heads a little when kicking the ball IF50. On the last point, I can sort of concede there, I mean they must have been overly excited about playing good footy and leading the game.

I think the best thing to come out of the game other than the result is the fact we looked better balanced. I think with Young out and with the attacking trio of Kemp, Boyd and Cincotta all playing down back we look a lot more agile and in turn able to provide more rebound run. And I also think we look better with 2 proper rucks - sadly that means Jack's spot in the senior side as a ruck/forward is not guaranteed (personally I think he might be best played as a defender anyhow). And also I think we looked more agile and athletic in the midfield with Hewett and Curnow both playing in the reserves. So on that I really hope Hewett doesn't come in next week. That isn't taking a shot at him, rather I just don't think we can carry so many slow mids in the one team. When we got on that role in the second quarter everyone was running and attacking and I thought Kennedy's slowness stood out like dog's balls. Again, that isn't intended as a shot at him, I mean he ended up with a stack of clearances and was really good late, I am just making the point we cannot carry so many slow mids in the 22. I think 3 slowish mids is the max we can play. Cripps, Kennedy and Cerra (who is not quick) is it. Add Hewett and/or Curnow and you're asking for trouble IMO. Hopefully Voss can see this now, because some of us have seen it all year.

Oh and the other big thing to come out of the game was Kemp seems to be growing by the week of late. This is awesome.

worth noting no team has won after the bye yet; except for swans over aints but they're both off the bye so someone had to win.

read a crazy sta where teams are like 5-38 after the bye round(s) since it started.

so we're up against it with the hawks.

i wonder what it is about modern pro footy players that can't switch on after a bye?

It's a momentum and routine killer.

Most players head home or go on a short break somewhere.

I agree. Young & SOS have played some good footy for us but I must admit we looked better without them yesterday.

Agree with most of this
As far as the opposition goes GC was as. Bad as you could get in that second quarter.
There time was then and they shat themselves
We are an average side imo
Positives
We do look better with Kemp playing as a key back and no Young
More mobile
Cunningham is a very clsssy footballer
Extra pace helps
McGovern played a decent game
But the opposition was pathetic
U

How much better are Mondays after a win?
I have just finished watching the replay, boy that 2nd quarter really was very good.

I think a few people here have said that if things are going well, SOS won't be in our first 22. I'd agree with that. Smart and gritty player, but lacks skill and athleticism; his ceiling is lower than most. Still hope he stays with us for many more years because you know he'll give 100% committed, competent performances whenever needed.

If I were Jack I would be embracing playing CHB a lot more than Ruck.

He is on a hiding to nothing in the Ruck.
