Dow in to play off half back... Defensive role on Melksham

Go Blues!

He’ll take Kennedy’s position at full back.
Kennedy to relief ruck

Go Blues

Sure. I guess. As good as playing him down back.
:yikes:

Don't know why you say Doc for "one last cracK" at midfield I think he is great value for us there, the only thing he is also the general of defence.

Numerous posts already on the subject from multiple posters - his efforts at CBAs this year have been woeful.

Quote:
Not sure Marchbank is ready to come back into the firsts yet, but keen for him to get there.

Two full games in the VFL should be enough. Also wonder how much they want to try Young forward.

Quote:
Rest of the ins I have no problem with, but Dow seems to have his papers stamped. If Cerra Cripps and Hewett are all out and he still doesn't get picked then I think the writing is very clearly on the wall. It is his ball use and lack of defensive running that keeps him out - he gets enough ball and has a burst of acceleration we could use.

His papers were stamped when we had an even worse injury list in the last two weeks last year and didn't get a look in. I can overlook the constant need to put his teammates under pressure with panicked disposal and the overall lack of intensity. I suspect I'm not the only one who feels that he just looks scared at AFL level.

Quote:
O'Brien is a tease but he has tools namely run and the ability to kick the ball albeit not as consistent with that as we would hope.

I'd like to give him one more chance to redeem himself - the Melbourne game will haunt him for sure. Don't think he's had a great go at it this year. I think he's got the physical attributes that suit the sub role, but again, mentally not so much. Needs the full game to build his confidence and work into it. His one full game for the year he was shitful, but I think a) there's something to work with, b) Acres should be kept honest, and c) it's a like for like in Hollands' role.

Quote:
One could argue for Fisher instead based on his game this week and Fogarty for consistent effort. Perhaps Silvagni as a jack of all trades who could run with Petracca, play forward or back and relieve in the ruck if need be.

Fogarty, I'm not against giving a game or two to if the season is over. Give him the same chance Setterfield got to show something. JSOS and Fisher can sit in the twos until they can kick a set shot and on his non-preferred side with any consistency. We've seen what they can do, and it's limited. 10 and 7 years into the system respectively is a concern.

Quote:
That might depend on what we do with our Ruck options. Ruling out Mirkov and O'Keeffe as not ready we are left with Pittonet and TDK as rucks, Young as a ruck height player but essentially KD who can play forward and/or take a run in the ruck and Jack as an undersized relief ruck option. Then there is the suggestion of giving Harry a run in the ruck to try and get him away from his goal kicking yips. Not a bad idea in my view. Pittonet and TDK are both in the team and did enough to stay in as far as I am concerned. Young is out and didn't do enough to come in. JSOS wasn't great in the 2s but has that versatility on his side.

Personally I'd be telling Harry he has a new role this week - either KD or KF/relief ruck whichever he prefers. If he says KD play TDK forward if he says relief ruck play TDK down back and see how he goes. I am not one of those who says just because his brother is a gun KD TDK would be too, indeed I am a bit sceptical, but we may as well give it a shot if the option is either Weitering giving away huge height or Young being recalled.

Tend to agree. If it wasn't Gawn/Grundy this week, I wouldn't be playing TDK unless he was the second tall forward, do like your idea of trialling him down back - I'd like to see him run with Tom McDonald - a role that isn't necessarily going to hurt us on the scoreboard if he's following Tom up the wings to be the bail out mark, but I don't think Kemp has the skillset to compete with either.

If he can't get a game this week and his papers were stamped why not have him fake a long term injury and go to the mid season draft? Makes no sense keeping him there. Play him or get rid of him now.

Go back and take a look at the mark he took in the 3rd quarter. He was crunched and was sitting on bench with track top on.
Only came back on due to injuries to Hewett Cripps Holland and Newman

Love some of the other stuff but Silvagni couldn't run a bath. Petracca will exhaust himself laughing.

JSOS acquitted himself better in the backline on Friday than Marchbank.
Marchbank is not ready to return

Carrol didn’t play VFL

Marchbank has only played one and a half vfl games, it maybe that’s enough. I don’t think he was really tested on the weekend as the swans vfl team was very weak and our defence was extremely strong and experienced for the VFL.

Fairly standard new contract injury

I can’t imagine Cripps will be out. If he can walk he’ll play, given the other injuries and suspension.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Marchbank as the sub. Probably planning for a post-bye comeback but with the injuries maybe they bank on him being able to play 3/4s if required and hope he doesn’t need to come on before 1/4 time or half time. On the other hand, I’d be happy if we still played the long game with him and stuck to his plan.
I don’t think they’ll move the magnets given how Voss appeared happy with aspects of our play. But obviously we’ll need to replace players.
Out: Cerra, Hewett, Newman, Hollands
In: O’Brien, Cincotta, Dow, JSOS

Might not be the worst thing if Cripps is too hurt to play.
Then the MC would be FORCED to change things up.
Or even plonk him in the fwd line. We’d beat ‘em with behinds.
Won’t happen, of course.
