I feel that this match will say it all ... a line in the sand game.

If we lose ... its the same old Carlton with the same old problems!

I am getting too old for this crud! :banghead:

If you look at the first 5 games we have been ordinary
Richmond have been crap all year
Geelong were still in party mode when we played them GWS are crap in arguably the worst game of the season so far. North are coming from a long way back and had no key defenders and we won by 4 goals
You can only hide the fact that the list has still enormous deficiencies

The loss of Docherty and Mc Govern last week was crucial
Both are good ball users from defense
Not quick but with the ball in their hands the pill can move forward quickly and effectively from the back
Saad provides the run
But even with these 3 guys in the team the speed in which the ball comes out from defence isn’t quick enough
Weitering Young Plowman Newman aren’t quick and don’t run and carry enough
The better teams have most defenders carrying the pill
Consequently we are easily played against
With 2 out we are in serious trouble
Why not try Dow at half back
Give him license to run
He wouldn’t be the first player to have his career saved by moving to the backline
Look at McGovern

This is why you need to watch the VFL.
Dow lacks a defensive side and defensive run, there is no way he can be a defender.

Saad doesn’t defend either
Ask Ben Keays
But you need players who run and gun out of defence
Good to see Cincotta get a run

I agree, except that is also not how Dow plays.
He's an extractor that follows the ball.
He is still working on his defensive side (I say this as it has gotten marginally better) and his attacking side is also a work in progress.
I want him to succeed but he needs to show more of a work rate to get into the team.
He is better than last year.
Cincotta is a good replacement for Saad, not as good by foot though.

"Still working on his defensive side" "Attacking side is also a work in progress" Left out that he can't kick. He is in year 6. Was shopped around as trade bait for the past two years and no teams wanted him. If he was pick 30 and not pick 3 he would have been gone years ago. Invest in youngsters who have an AFL future. Dow doesn't.

Yep, happens all the time on my whatsapp group
I follow European football and I tell you what, Serie A and EPL managers don't hide their dislike for players...I've heard stories of bars in Milan and Turin descending into chaos with supporters calling each other the most vile non-PC names because of those disagreements over who should be benched and who should play

Remember those days we’ll but it still doesn’t make it right. All coaches have their pets. Won’t change but you need reward ‘knocking down the door’, especially when players are injured or out of form at that part of the ground. It’s how who grow the team mentality of success.

I think what gets me most about selection regarding Dow and Kemp is the players in the seniors are not playing their best.
example being plowman and Cerra. The question marks about Dow are pretty similar to Cerra. I guess Cerra does better helping out the defence better than Dow, but decision making and kicking is no Better IMO.
The last time Dow played 5 games in a row he wasn’t on his own with defensive effort. it’s like our midfield didn’t know what it meant 2 years ago..I wouldn’t mind seeing him give 5-10 games as he has a bit of energy everyone else seems to lack.

Cerra was one of our better players against Adelaide IMO

The same Cerra who’s currently equal second in TC’s MVP?

Some things are bigger than footy, going to the game today quite emotional.

Going through medical tests at the moment and waiting on results, either way it doesn't look good.

Hopefully just me thinking the worst.

So perhaps, just for today, don't give up on the team if we start shit. Don't turn on each other, don't worry about things we can't control.

Enjoy the moment, we don't know what's around the corner.

Go baggers

Should be be selecting players on how or when they received contract extensions?

After showing some promiseHoney has gone downhill
OBrien is simply not AFL standard
Dow has been very ordinary at AFL level but he has been the best player in the twos
We are crying out for some leg speed
Why give a guy a contract and not pick him when it’s warranted
With Saad out we have less leg speed

As a question Keogh, did you watch the VFL on the weekend?

I didn't, but since you do, can you capture in 25 words or less Honey's contribution at VFL level that saw him selected and his contribution at AFL level once he was err umm teehee "rewarded"

I can capture it in one.........injuries.
Both Honey and Fisher offer us nothing at the moment but they are filling "roles", apparently.

Can’t help being a little bit jittery.

Durdin not playing…

Unless they’ve pulled the trigger on Young as 2nd ruck, I’d say we can narrow the inevitable-though-as-yet-undisclosed injury down to two.

KK, no good you feeling like that.
Feel for you.
I'm hopeful Modern Medicine is on your side.
I have a lot of friends winning their 'losing' battles because the Specialists are that good in this era, and getting better by the day.

I expect the boys to get up today.
I hope the day brings you joy. Enjoy watching your baggers play footy.
Good luck.
