What I have noticed since the end of last year is massive work on structure, game plan etc. I have not seen any attention paid to skills. No specialist work on skills.

I know many at Melbourne reckon that Mark Williams going there and focussing on skills really changed their game and confidence.

I would to see us do more in this area

Dees weren’t exactly lacking for structure coming out of the Roos era.

Have to learn to walk before you run.

One thing I noticed from the stats is the amount of handballs against kicks that some of our players had.

Walsh 6 kicks 19 handballs
Cripps 6 kicks 13 handballs
Hewett 3 kicks 13 handballs
Fisher 3 kicks 11 handballs

You are hardly going to win the game with dinky handballs.

Let’s hope they start remembering that structure and game plan sometime soon!

I havn't seen stats, so may be totally off the mark, but I'd be surprised if midfielders in fast-ball-movement sides like C'wood/Saints/Crows kick more than they handball.

I'd be more concerned that the above players (except Walsh) hardly even got their hands on the ball compared to their opponents before worrying about their ratios.
Laird 37, 11 kicks and 26 handballs
Dawson 32, 21 kicks and 11 handballs
Jones 28, 18 kicks and 10 handballs.

Also both Walsh and Cripps had 185m and 141m gained respectively, well down on the other mids from both teams.

maybe some of that is gameplan. My bet is it's also

1.very little running into space say 15-30 m ahead so no other option but to handball
2. Not wanting to take responsibility to kick (see dot pont 1)
3. handballing to someone about to get tackled, so the next player has to handball
4. calling for the ball when you have an opp player next to you or in your lane (see 3)

Not unusual for Cripps to have more handballs than kicks.
Fisher in particular who for all his faults, is one of our better field kicks, should be kicking more often.

Are you talking about Zac Fisher or another Fisher?
I seen him miss a 15m chip to LOB on the wing in space in Rd 4.
His kicking efficiency for this season is at 53.7% (below average).
His effective kicks are 4.4 per game (below average).
In fact if you go through all of his stats he has somehow managed to not have 1 single stat above average.
Yet Voss will most likely name him this week.

You definitely can. At high school in house cross country I'd walk most of the time until there was a teacher on a corner, then I'd run.

It's possible.
