Absolutely immense effort by Mckay in the 4th. He's got form there, can remember him taking a couple of very similar marks against Haw last year.

Well done H

Did anyone hear Daniel the salty Richmond supporter call SEN just before?

That's the problem. He only has the one position. Do we not bring Hewett back?

Didn't get to the game but on TV the noise when Young marked near the end sounded like a goal

Just really relieved we won. Would have been an utterly shit weekend if we'd dropped that.

6 points & a decent run of games ahead. Bring it!!

Sooo I had a weird feeling about this game all week. Good weird not bad weird.

Even when I was tearing my hair out and screaming my head off late in the last, some little voice in my head said "We aren't gonna lose this one".

Anyway that's my claim to fame.

Hey Miss….

my great buddy Lisa lost her Mother yesterday…I’ve known
Helen since i was 15…i wouldn’t have known her as well
as i did…if it wasn’t for Carlton…!

i can honestly say…every single time i saw Helen
these last 43 years…there was NEVER a time we didn’t
discuss Carlton…never…!

I last spoke to Helen Monday…she was upset people
we’re blaming O’Brian…she whispered…(very gently)…
“We’ll beat Geelong”…!

so yeah Miss…i had that similar feeling you had…!

RIP Helen…my favourite Carlton supporter ever…!

kindest regards tommi

best wishes to everyone, hope there are some smiles amongst the tears

So sad when we lose bluebaggers.

I feel it’s a big step forward for the side. Beating a good team in a tight tough game will do us wonders

Pros:

We didn't choke.
Started the year with 1 1/2 wins against good opposition. And there's still a lot of improvement to come.
Managed to again keep quality opposition to a low score.
Ball movement was much better.
6 goals out of our small forwards. Also much better forward pressure to stop the ball rebounding so quickly.
Got a very generous run from the umps.
Saad, Charlie, Acres, Cerra, Owies.
Like how TDK is now laying tackles and competing at ground level.
We're a better side with both Ed and Pittonet in the team.
Good games again from our youngsters in Hollands and Cowan. Hard to see them being dislodged from the team at the moment.

Cons:

Would be nice to finish a game outscoring the opposition.

How about some apologies to the coach/selectors from the nervous nellies on the pre-game thread?

Think there were many of us most happy to release tight, spasming sphincters...haha.

really good win, confidence is such an intangible necessity, this will give us confidence, and I think Vossies post match last week actually helped set this week up. Bluebaggers are building!

Could we be the first team that brings two completely different game plans into the season, depending on our opponents??
Fast Carlton & Tight Carlton?

I still think we need to clean up our kicks which get smothered and the dinky handballs that fall to teammates feet and slow our momentum.

its only two weeks into the season, but i feel this is a really important step the team has taken ...

last week in the 3rd when richmond got a run on, we where able to slow it down, take the heat out of the contest, score 2 goals ... years gone by that results in us conceeding a run of 5+ goals etc..

this week, again the cats, we had moments when we ran them off their feet, slowed it down when they got a run on.

i think defensively, i feel like we are structured really well .. again, in years gone by we would rely on a massive midfield dominance ... and that just doesnt seem like our greatest asset anymore. they where good, and probably won the contest last night, but i feel like it is 30+ from everyone (Cripps, Cerra, Hewitt & Walsh) for us to win games in the past, not anymore.

for mine, its real tangible improvement on last season ... not sure we beat two many top 4/8 sides last year, well we have now. Thats 2 who i think will be top 8 at the very least, and we are unbeaten.

we still have alot of work to do on our defensive efforts when they game is there to be won .. feel like we try to defend a lead way to early, but its a work in progress.

great start to the season IMO

My thoughts
Very scrappy game
I always take into account the opposition
Geelong were shit
They have a monster premiership hangover
Still think we are very slow with our ball movement and our one paced
The second quarter was the key
Geelong had a run on and Hawkins had a set shot he normally would kick
He misses ball goes up the other end and Charlie kicks an amazing goal
Game changer right there
A potential 14 point deficit turns into a 3 point deficit
Turning point last night
Charlie is such an instinctive player
Early days but I reckon the 2022 draft could be turning point for this club
Hollands and Cowan look really good
Cowan doesn’t panic and is very strong at the contest
Pick 30 great pickup
Hollands is terrific
Acres we know what your going to get from him
Only cost us a third rounder

Motlop was good to

Most pleasing thing is the small forwards hit the scoreboard. We aren't going to be a really good team if we rely solely on the tall forwards. Voss pointed out the forward pressure was there last night. How the small fellas go with pressure and goals will go a long way to determining our level of success

Holland's running is ridiculous for a first year player. He does not stop. And he can use it. Already better than LOB. Watch out when he gets stronger in future years.

Fantastic win. More relief than anything at the end, but as stated, if you'd given me 1 1/2 wins out of the first 2 games before a ball was bounced I'd have snaffeled it.
Credit to Vossy and the match committee, particularly for playing the kids Hollands and Cowan. They could have taken the easy way out at the start of the year and put them through the 2's, but they had the courage to play them in big matches from the get go. Well done to all involved.

I had us 0-2 to start the year. Now we will finish top 4 :-)

TDks little push and shove on his brother was fun to watch :)

But getting goals out of all our small forwards was excellent
