All the debating over Pitto vs TDK and Durdin vs Young is hilarious

TDK had a big summer and Pitto missed a fair bit of it

Young has a lot more credits in the bank than Durdin

Two 18 year olds, and a 33 year old who hasn’t had a senior game in over 18 months, says to me this isn’t our best team. A couple of others named in the side would have to be underdone too.

Nearly every game last year teams were able to get a run on.
It was generally because some one got off the leash. No one in the entire squad with the exception of Cotrell can play the run with role.
Ed at one stage was the best in the business.
I hope he returns to that

That's the problem. Outside of that he doesn't have another position and if he does tag in there then we are even slower through the midfield. His an issue unless he replaces Hewett or Kennedy and IMO - NFW.

I hope Doc gets to rub Bolton's nose in it tomorrow night.

Bolton Martin Prestia all have the ability to turn a game on its head. If one of them lights it up they could flog us.
If not Ed then who

I get your point but I don't think we need to worry about this setup.
Richmond will have Taranto, Hopper and Prestia as their main midfield with Cotchen, Bolton running through as rotations.
I think Cripps, Kennedy and Hewett will match up well. They don't tag either, so we that just need to be accountable and win the contest.
Nankervis in the ruck is my issue, as he will try to out body TdK. Let's see if TdK has learnt anything and or if Kruez has worked it out.

Best in a long time. Great spine, Great midfield etc and many in their prime. and it will get better when Walsh comes in. Durdin as well.

It’s a pretty good team on paper but I can’t agree it’s our “best in a long time”. How is the spine different from last year? The differences from last year’s core team are-
In: E.Curnow, Cowan, Hollands, Acres
Out: Walsh, Williams, C.Durdin, LOB

I am quietly confident.
We beat them quite comprehensively in R1 last year and while we lost the second game I think that was largely on account of our collective immaturity not playing wet weather football in the first half - we actually matched them in the second half IIRC.
Notwithstanding the weather affected first half we could well have won that game.
Really that second game was a reflection of the fact we were a rising team but nowhere near the finished product.
Hopefully tonight we can show we have made big strides in the off season and accordingly are a better side than Richmond. I can't imagine we are an infinitely superior side though so the game could well be close.

They'll also rotate Short and Graham, both very handy.
We've been looking at their lack of height in the forward and back as an advantage for us.
But I think they're planning to run us off our feet with all the running players they've included.
If we're to have a chance, we need to come out hard at the start and build a massive lead and then try to hold on.
LOB not starting is a massive risk for our run, I have no issue with Hollands starting, but I'd rather Fisher (or even Motlop/Cowan) as a sub and LOB in the forward line running two ways.

There's about 8 selections I'm not fully convinced on for various reasons:

McGovern/Martin/Motlop from a fitness standpoint

TDK or Pitto

Selection appears compromised in giving Hollands a full game ahead of LOB potentially on the basis they don't want a first gamer as sub

What role does Ed have here? Are we playing him as Durdin wasn't fit enough and therefore see him as a better option as a small forward than Honey? Are we going with both him and Hewett as run with players? Neither prospect seems great.

Has Fisher done enough to warrant a spot?

Happy to see Cowan get a go, but do we have a role for him in that backline with McGovern there too?

Chances of winning probably rest on getting the two run with players assigned to the right Tigers (Prestia, Martin, Baker, Short and Bolton). I think you play Ed as a defensive forward on Short, the other I'm not so sure about. Part of me wants to see Hewett go to Martin the full game no matter where he plays as I don't think there's a good matchup for him if he plays forward, the other thinks we stand a very good chance of dominating the centre square clearances and would rather put pressure back on them the other way. Cottrell is a big loss contextually.

I'm sure all sides have the same issues to weigh up when selecting the best team every week. I have confidence that Voss and Co. have selected the best side available to beat the Tigers.
But then I prefer to be a glass half full person and an optimist.

GO BLUES!

Disappointed Carroll wasn't at least named as an emergency. I am hoping he will have replaced Fisher by the end of the season.

R1 last year the Tigers were in control until Prestia went off injured.
We were lucky with the umpiring as well.....from memory a couple of goals from dubious 50m penalties.
