Boyd isn’t a great loss if he can’t get fit based on 7 games he has played
I hope he is an example of blokes who can make it and are a late bloomer
Yes he is quick
I also like it that he takes the game on
He plays with intent
But 2 give him a 2 year deal is way overs
One on the rookie list would have been more appropriate
He hasn’t shown yet that his body can hold up to the riggers of AFL footy
Oh
On Williams
6 years on big money
Way overs particularly when your not fit enough
Mc Govern 5
We gave Setterfield 5 years then decided to turf him off to the Bombers
Martin 5

Giving long term deals that are tooo long based on what they have produced is one of the reasons we have not played finals for a decade

But it’s the injury thread
Let’s not get off track
Hope Boyd gets right and shows something for an extended patch

So Walsh, Boyd, Kennedy and Cottrell will have injury affected starts to the year?

Way to go Russell.

Why are we still blaming Russell?

Postseason surgery on a lisfranc that he carried through most of the season.

He’s probably a good month or two behind on the running loads.

Because he’s still employed.

Not according to this from Nic Negrepontis.

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/01/30/carltons-best-22-for-the-2023-afl-season/

As of today, he thinks that everyone is available in round 1 with the exception of Walsh.

Quote:
Of their best 22, only Sam Walsh is currently unavailable heading into the start of the season (knock on wood) as the Blues gear up for their traditional season opener against Richmond.

Quote:
Carlton will be disappointed they don’t have access to Jordan Boyd, who impressed as a rebounding defender with an elite kick in 2022, while Caleb Marchbank could step into the Round 1 side as the magnets shuffle around.

Obviously Boyd isnt in his best 23. Strangely he has Docherty as the 7th defender and Newman in the first 18.

Right on Agro.

Its a no brainer.

I think Nic must have Doc on the bench for flexibility: not necessarily as the 7th defender.

Having just rewatched the whole season, I was surrprised with Newman's reliability and confidence with ball in hand. I think I was too critical of Newman last year because I was fearfulk of him in one on one's. I think this will be Newman's last year in the preseason best 23. I'm sure Boyd will be back and it looks like Cowan may develop quicker than most 2nd rounders.

Newman has been much maligned and to be honest up until 12 months ago I wasn't a massive fan. I viewed as someone who just fill a spot till someone better came along.
However, he was good last year in most games. Had the odd brain fade but so did our brownlow medallist. He seems to be well regarded and if fit will be in our best 22. At least early on.

Having said that, agree totally with Agro and Bondi. Doc every day of the week if it came down to those two.

Newman is one of those players who seems more highly regarded inside the club than outside it. Plowman is another (see the recent Weitering interview on the CFC website).

The club has only good things to say about its players ... even stocker.
Every player on the list is highly regarded, one way or another.
We all know who the 5-6 fringe players are, including the player.

Coteries awards and the like reward players for their off field activities, and their persona around the club.
Best Clubman does not mean Best 23.

I didn't get the same feeling from the Weitering interview.

Weiters basically said he's come back in good nick. He said he knows the flack Plowman receives. Plow knows his role.

To give you an example of what I mean, it was made obvious that Plowman wasn't an automatic selection as some suggest Plowman was dropped last year when Gov and Marchy returned.
