I thought the 2023 Draw probably deserves it's own thread.
In summary if we play North, Hawthorn and West Coast twice I think we should be happy. Note that we only played each of these sides once this year so there is a reasonable chance of it occurring.
Last year we played Essendon* only once so I suspect the AFL might change this in the hope of increasing attendances.
Does anyone know when the full final draw is released?

Details of the so-called magic round are expected to come out on Tuesday, and a full fixture to be released later in the week, possibly on Thursday.

What's the bet that Collingwood will only play 5 interstate matches, whilst Carlton will take on 6 interstate matches?

In 2017, 2019 and 2022 Carlton played six interstate matches to Collingwood's five. Carlton's record in interstate matches in 2022 - 2 wins, 4 losses. There hasn't been one year in more than a decade (probably longer) that Carlton has played less interstate matches than Collingwood.

It is fair enough that Carlton plays two matches in WA as there is such a big support base over there, and 1 in each of the other states.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the draw.

^Not to mention we got two interstate games in a row this year.

I reckon will get Collingwood, Essendon* and Richmond twice like the old days although we did play two of those twice this year.

Collingwood finished top 6, Richmond and us middle 6 and Essendon* bottom 6 so it works out and AFL will be frothing about potential crowds.

Not that long ago we played 6 interstate matches AND we played in Geelong. So supporters and members only got to go to 15 games in Melbourne that year.

About time! always thought it should be Carlton v Norf on Good Friday as these are the two closest clubs geographically to the Royal Children's Hospital.

I wonder who's home game it will be, my guess is North.
Not sure if I would go to the game, we always have a big family get together on this day.
Or it may be an excuse to leave early.

Poster on BF says we will play the Crows on the Thursday night of magic round.
If so we get a genuine away game when most teams will be playing neutral games.

Yes, and in 2011 Collingwood didn't play their first interstate match (unless I am mistaken) until Round 14. That's nice.

2012 - Round 7
2013 - Round 7
And then when Collingwood does go interstate it is evenly spaced....Round 3, 8, 11, 17, 21
Round 5 was generally their first interstate trip in recent years, but by then Richmond and Carlton have already travelled interstate at least once.

Early season form is important and if you are playing early season matches interstate then you are more likely to rack up loses...but I guess it is just fortunate that Collingwood seem to get good draws. I guess it is just luck.

Also means that it's likely we play North twice which is a good thing.

The AFL didn't really think this one through, though I'm happy were featuring in it. Orthodox easter aligns with Catholic easter this year, so that will wipe out plenty of their hoped for crowd.

We owe Clarkson plenty so I’m going to be calling for blood when we play them. You can bet he will have them whipped into a frenzy for us.

You sure? I don't think the calenders align until 2025.

I thought the draw for magic round or whatever they'll calling it was released today and the remainder of the fixture tomorrow?
Or are they waiting for a soccer game to start first?

Orthodox easter is 16 April 2023 - a week after "Catholic" Easter

When is Greek Orthodox Easter 2023?
Greek Orthodox Easter 2023 is on 16 April, a week after Catholic Easter 2023.

FWIW - Orthodox Easter and Catholic Easter do not align again until 2025.
