I agree with London on this. I think he's worth locking in, especially if he's cheap. It's a great way to build depth and stability in the team for a long term game plan and goal, Geelong style. That's why I think the club has gone for a mini build this off season with all the young blokes and is why we are playing them so early on, Bolton style. It may have taken a while for Scott to win at Geelong again, but their patience, stability and competitiveness at the top end of the ladder for the last 10 years is something I'm sure we'd all rather. Long term contracts shouldn't be discouraged. However, if you were to critique our current player management, IMO we do need to show we are also willing to make the tough calls and off load key players too when necessary for the long term prospects of the club over short term success. |

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with Keogh. An extra 3 years now is over the top |

I don’t know any Carlton fan, let alone TCer who wasn’t surprised with Young’s performance in 2023. He exceeded all preseason expectations. He took Oscars spot when he went down, who else could we rely on to take that spot? When Weitering went down too, who else could we rely on to fill that spot? Who wasn’t impressed with the job Young did when Weitering went down? I can see areas he could improve in, but Young is a much better spoiler and mark than Durdin. I don’t know how anyone can think it’s a bad contract without knowing the cost. Furthermore, what do the knockers think he should’ve been offered? If you offer one year to a versatile 200cm KPD/ Ruck/ KPF who turns 24yo this year what message do you think that sends? His manager would be lining up prospects for the end of that contact or doesn’t sign. Ie we would have a Logue situation which I find absurd. Not all KPDs are superstars and Young was a revelation last year. I like Durdin but I am not convinced he’s better than Young. How could anybody be? Durdin has only played 75% of one game |

The argument against the Young extension is just nonsense. Completely oblivious in every aspect. |

I’ve given up on relying on our injury prone players: Marchbank and Gov Both happen to be the intercept mark or 3rd tall. Plowman is next in line. I’d prefer Young or Weitering as the 3rd tall and Durdin playing a lockdown role. Who else do we have? That’s the point. Tall defenders depth is not something we have, yet. Would have loved to draft Sam Collins but many in Tc thought he was too slow bla bla bla KPDs don’t grow on trees |

I would have waited to see what Young offers in 2023 before offering him a new contract. In the meantime I would be looking closely at Harry Boydfrom Norwood Classic case of a late bloomer who could be lost to the AFL because he is only a SANFL player IMO could hold down a key defensive post at any AFL club |

The guy can play. He was definitely worth a rookie spot on some AFL list Won the Oatley Medal A bit better than The Kaniva Reserves Definitely better than Plowman You sure your name isn’t SOS |

If we step away from length of contract, there is no doubt every reason he should be on our list |

His marking is good but his intensity is poor at times and he's jittery with the ball. If he performs well early in the season, offer him an extra 2 years but I don't understand the rush. |

As BV has said he lacks intensity and his decision making is poor at times To offer him a 3 year contract extension before the season starts makes no sense But there is a history of this sort of practice at Carlton over the last quarter of a century It simply doesn’t make any sense He would need to improve significantly to be on our list for the next 4 years For some reason there is a history of this club overrating players and offering long contracts And in some instances some players who showed something then got the chop Maybe I am just a shit judge of a footballer Holman Tuohy there is two Cuningham didn’t deserve a 3 year deal based on his output previously When he has been fit he hasn’t delivered enough As I have said repeatedly our depth is questionable Keeping guys like Cuningham Dow O’Brien Plowman on your list for so long is frankly poor list management |

I think everyone expressing their concerns have valid points. Maybe the club is just trying lock in as many long term contracts as possible at a cheaper rate to try and even the TPP spread for the next 5 years and create salary cap space. This way we won't be caught with our pants down because of a Williams, Martin or McGovern type contract, especially when a Bowes offer becomes available. I'm expecting clubs to be offloading picks more with players to salary dump over the coming years and if we have space we can pounce on some good talent to top up. Plus with more players locked in for a longer period, Voss can really build a solid game plan around that predictability. Cook isn't a fool when it comes to this. |
