Williams is a massive loss. A grade talent who was looking great.

Does this mean Docherty goes back to defence? Probably. Can't beat having that talent back there.

Losing Williams Walsh Boyd especially early puts a real dent in our side. Can't beat quality

How quickly Cowan & Hollands can step up could make a massive difference

This doesn’t look to be a terrible side given Walsh and Williams are out. (I don’t put Boyd anywhere near the same category.)
I feel like E Curnow might need to step in to fill Walsh’s running man role rather than sub. I’d probably have Owies as the sub who is more likely to come on as a burst player.
Could Durdin play some time in the midfield?
In any event, I could see Docherty, Fisher, and possibly even Jack and Charlie joining Cripps, Cerra, Hewett, and Acres through the midfield. Hopefully Martin too but that might just be asking for trouble.

I can see now why they retained Ed Curnow.
One, we have injuries all the time and that doesn't seem to be abating at all, and two we are hoping to be contenders so the experience and depth is handy.
Ed as much as had a year off last year, he could be energised/refreshed. While his disposal will always be iffy, it might not be the worst thing in the world to have an experienced, strong bodies, tough running and tackling machine come the pointy end of the season when hardness comes to the fore.

The unknown is whether his body can still hold up. It failed him badly last year and he’s 33.

With Markov coming in, Cowan looking impressive and Saad Newman Marchbank Plowman all fit we have the role covered. Cottrell played a lot of junior footy as a HB and of course there is Docherty

Hollands is an option for HB like Daicos did last year and I hope we trial Honey or Cunningham as defenders

We should be okay

Why is it….

Doc’s delivery is a bit iffy off HBF…yet through
the middle he delivers much better…?

for that reason i prefer Doc in the midfield set up…!

kindest regards tommi

This photo taken at yesterday's training.
If Cowan is 188cm and Newman 186cm, it doesn't look that way to me in this photo. Newman looks taller than Cowan.

They’re both in the books at 187cm… and, to be fair, you’d have to give the records +/- 1cm.

They are about the same but Cowan has a boot off. Both are that 6ft 2 type

round 1:
Plowman Young McGovern
Newman Weitering Saad
Acres Cripps Cerra
Martin CCurnow Fisher
JSoS McKay Durdin
Pittonet Hewitt Docherty
Kennedy Motlop O'Brien TdK
Dow

More rotations ie. Doc to go back, Cerra, Fisher to go through the middle, etc.

I think that's around the mark. Cowan & Hollands are pushing for a spot. It's just when

My take:

McGovern S.Durdin Newman
Cowan Weitering Saad
Acres Cripps O'Brien
Martin McKay Fisher
Curnow TDK Motlop
Pittonet Hewett Docherty
Cerra Kennedy C. Durdin Plowman
E: Silvagni Hollands Young Dow

Cowan has been impressive and with Williams out he plays
I don't think Marchbank will be quite ready for Rd One and will play VFL
I can't fit Silvagni & TDK in the one side. For me it's one or the other
My smokey is S.Durdin over Young. He has been very impressive in Match Sims. Calm, controls the defence and doesn't make mistakes. Young (who I like) can be laconic and makes mistakes especially when the ball hits the ground. Close call
I reckon that's a bloody good side even missing Walsh & Williams

By mid year I reckon Walsh Boyd Hollands Marchbank will be in that side

Looks like a good team to me.

Doc to be 7th defender? I think he will go back too at times.

I hope Dow earns that spot.

I like that team Surrey. I wouldn't mind somehow finding a spot for Marchbank though

Me too. That will come at McG's expense. I think McG will get first go, else I would not hesitate to make that change.

I have a hunch that Marchbank's customised training plan is designed to have him ready practise games
If he doesnt play a praccy, then I dont think he will be there in round 1. If he does, and is fit, he's in for mine.
I think Plow would make way for Marchbank, not Gov.

Gov and Plow can play against smalls but Gov is quicker and a better mark.

If Cottrell is right in 5 weeks time, then I think he's perfect for the HBF role.

Are people seriously considering or even minor comfortable in having McGov playing against Dusty?
