The fact that Harry can't/won't take the relieving ruck role reduces our flexibility. Look at the impact Daniher is having at Brisbane and the flexibility it gives them. I'd tell him to harden up and give us the option.

I like Farmer's team with a couple of minor tweaks.

B: Boyd Weitering McGovern
HB: Newman Kemp Saad
C: Acres Cripps Docherty
HF: Owies Martin Cuningham
F: McKay Curnow Motlop
Foll: TDK Cerra Walsh
Int: Hewett Fogarty Cottrell Cincotta (Kennedy)

Our forward line is working well and shouldn't have wholesale disruption just to bring mids back in.
Cincotta deserves to keep the 7th defender role until someone takes it off him. Same with Cottrell playing H/F rotating 3rd wingman. Same with Fogarty who brings elite pressure and clean hands around the ball.
I think we're too slow with Charlie, Harry and JSOS inside 50.

Of all the TC posters, I would have thought you'd be the last to have Kennedy out of your best 22, and you've let go of your mantra that the AA HB should be playing HB.

Agree re Cincotta. Ditto Cottrell.
Fisher is playing the spare in defence. I dont think that will happen in a Finals game.

Hollands is the hard one to leave out. Its all hard to leave out anyone in this form, and glad it is.
Fog is bringing the heat. I'd give Hollands the nod of the two. But totally respect the value you put on Fog.
Farmer and I were in love with what Fog did 3 weeks in a row in the VFL as an inside mid before being selected in the AFL.

Fair point on Kennedy. I'm happy to have him on the bench and Hewett sub. I was thinking of easing him back in after injury but as this is a best 23 thread, you're correct, he should be there.
As for Docherty, my thoughts are he's not in our best midfield rotation yet they played him there at the expense of Cerra or Kennedy. How can anyone think it's better to play Cerra or Kennedy in defence and Docherty midfield? Yet some fool on the MC toyed with it for a few weeks. That was my complaint about Docherty not playing half back.
With Cincotta, Boyd and Kemp stepping up, I'm happy with Docherty taking the wing position. He played there for a few weeks and our wingers performed as well as any combination in the AFL IMHO. It's only the loss of Cerra, Walsh and Kennedy that has seen him return to the midfield. Once they return, I'd expect him to be squeezed out again.

Hollands is a wingman at the moment and he's doing it well. But Docherty and Acres are playing the role better and Cottrell as a H/F who gives them a rotation is a revelation IMHO. He provides a wing rotation, good forward pressure and he's a goal kicker as well. Hollands time will come. As for Fogarty, I don't like to tinker with what's working. Our forward structure is excellent at the moment. Harry is the only one who could force his way back in IMHO. I love Durdin but it's the incumbents roles to lose.

Thanks for clearing that up. I do recall the disgrace you felt when Cerra and Kennedy played HB, and so say all of us.

I like the perspective on Hollands, because I find it difficult to not select him after his amazing, Campo like year. Lucas Camporeale next year too...back to the thread...2023.

Yeah I want to see Kennedy's and Hewett's name in the best 23. I see them as hard hitters and that role saps energy. I like Hewett as a tagger more than Kennedy and ed. Its a great looking list....loved dannyboys new thread. Says it all. The whole list, let alone Best 23 has bought into pressure, contest and selflessness.

Pretty similar to others, though JSOS seems to be my point of difference.

Anyone else still use old mate Jimmae's teamboard? Credit where it's due, I still like it.

If JSOS doesn't make it, who is the relieving ruck?

No-one except Cripps?

Yeah JSOS has to play to enable us to drop Pitto. Plus he was in career best form before getting injured and is incredibly versatile

Surely Hewett is ahead of Kennedy in our Best 23

He has been huge support for Cripps in the trenches, and he has a knack of getting the ball out and connect with it.

Unbelievable form since his one week in the VFL.

Kennedy was in ripping form before he got injured but Hewett can’t be dropped on current form. Kennedy will have to come in for someone else or not at all. I do think Kennedy is built for finals though

I really like them both. Kennedy a bit better offensively & Hewett a bit better defensively

While we were losing the vibe was we couldn't have both in the same team, so if that's still the case I can't see Matty pushing George out.

Unless Voss decides to @#$%&! with our minds & play Kennedy at half back again

I like them both. I just don’t think we can have Cripps Kennedy Hewett in the one side? Maybe in finals we can? I just like the mix with Cerra Walsh & Docherty.

What I do like is last night at times we had TDK Cripps Fogarty Dow in the middle and they still won the clearances

PS I am absolutely wrapt for Dow. The kid did and awesome pre season, worked on flaws and never dropped his head. Credit to him

This what you need for finals. A squad of 30 fighting for spots

Defence: Weitering S.Durdin Young McGovern Marchbank Kemp Saad Newman Cincotta Boyd Fisher Cowan

Rucks: Pittonet TDK

Mids: Cripps Hewett Kennedy Cerra Walsh Docherty Dow Curnow Hollands Acres

Forwards: Curnow McKay Silvagni Motlop Owies Fogarty Martin Cuningham Cottrell Durdin

Pick any side from that. I am happy with any!

The midfield group did really well.
At one stage it was Cuningham, Dow, Fogarty with TDK, and they won.
Same happened against Pies best and we won.
So much confidence in the midfield group.

I think with this new game plan and buy in from the whole group, our best players will play together in Finals ie Kennedy Hewett.
Its a different game to the time Hewett was dropped for ... one game.
These are the guys that win the ball and can get it into our territory, or link up

Well put.

Really is a case of having players playing well at the right end of the season, along with getting players back at the right time.
Can't fit 30 into 23.

Spine to build around with Weitering, McGoverne, Cripps, McKay, Curnow is as solid as you will find.

Yeah I think Kennedy has to play finals as long as he's fit. When the heat is on he is as tough as they come. He was in ripping form before he got injured, so the caveat is that he needs to be fit enough to play somewhere near that level

Pretty good assessment of selection pressures and who replaces who.

I reckon they’ve got that absolutely spot. The only one I’m not sure about is Motlop being the one to make way. He has a knack for finding the goals more than any of our other small forwards and could have a purple patch that could win you a final, however he does go missing for patches.

Its about right.

He hasn't considered Boyd for Fisher.

Whether Voss goes with TDK and SOS instead of Pitto is a wait and see.

I also think Marchbank's next game against GCS will determine where he plays. My guess is Marchy may play himself in good form, too good to leave out, and ahead of Kemp (if Marchy plays another good game), and Kemp goes for McGovern for the Finals.

I’d think Fisher would be a more likely omission for McGovern
