Wouldn't mind putting a few on viney for the brownlow. Umps clearly love him

What a great game to watch, unfortunately with a heartbreaking result.

However, I prefer to look on the bright side, what a great team effort across the board.
Even though players made mistakes my hope is Voss can use that to motivate them to tidy up their game a little more for next week and step it up another level, Voss the player like.
Because we've played the scum before and lost, we now have the advantage to adapt to their game plan from last time and catch them unaware, like we did to Freo.
And if we can bring the same intensity as we did last night we may just put ourselves in a position to win.
Also it was comforting to see that effort last night, as that is what we need to play finals, we just need to work on skills and tempo.

The shining light in the game for me was Setters being played in position and doing well (although a few of his kicks were a little rushed).
It was also good to see Stocker, Pitto and Martin getting back closer to what we expect from them as players.
And NO INJURIES.

Huge step forward this week, bring on next week.
Potentially our last finals effort game of the year, I hope we leave everything on the ground.

Maybe show some clips of Michael Jordan talking about how he went about things to motivate the boys.

Go Blues!!

Bloody proud of the boys. Gutted, but proud. Such a cruel game sometimes.

As someone has pointed out, Melbourne fielded the same side (with 2 exceptions Hunt and Melksham) which won the premiership last year by 74 points!

Frustrated beyond belief with the last 2 minutes. If Owies shanked that kick because he was cramping then I blame the loss on Andrew Russell and his team. There is only one reason for cramps - not fit enough.

Last night shows what a difference it makes when our ‘fringe’ players put in.

Really, REALLY like The Doc in the centre. I’ve always thought he’s too loose down back.

So this week there is no such thing as a sling tackle?

Just watch round 22 last year against Port to see how far we have come.
We're a good side now........just need to keep tinkering and moving forward.
Hopefully a good run with injuries will make us a great side if we miss out this year.
Plenty of positives.
Plus we still have 3 chances next week.
1. Dogs lose
2. We win or draw
3. Dogs win by 4 and we lose by 4 (not 100% on the numbers but it should be close).

As unlikely as it seems, Richmond lose today and next week, we stay in.
Really wish our game was Friday night next week so we could just win and put it all beyond doubt and then enjoy the rest of the weekend

the fix was in, and it was in early ...

someone suggested it earlier, but the amount of times viney was being tackled, drop the ball ... play on ... was obsurd.

im still not convinced that goal was touched ... just seem like every little decision, went the demons way ... but perhaps that my blue glasses on.

but do you know what, dont give me this shit that umpires dont make a difference ... right or wrong, they do ... 26 free kicks to 13 is a huge difference, and has a direct impact on the result.

we still put ourselves in a position ot win, and we should have held on IMO, that wasnt the umprires doing, but dont say their impact doesnt have a huge influence
Loving the positive posts above, but just wanted to add the one thing I cant let go of from the game.

Gawn takes a mark, plays on... one umpire calls play on... someone else calls him back to have a kick... Goal.

He clearly played on.... I dont get that call at all.

Frustrating.

Now ... please resume the positivity please

One umpire called play on because no mark (IE Pitto touched it first). Gawn started to play on but then the other ump overruled and paid the mark

I blame whatever niche argument I've been carrying all season as the reason for the loss. This just proves it.

If the dogs win by 4 I think we will have approx 3 goal buffer. Would be a great pisstake if we lose but by 2 goals and get through. Players jumping on each other at the siren even though we lose.

I couldn’t sleep for hours last night, even though I stayed well away from here. Even this morning I couldn’t sleep in so I went for a swim and having a late breakfast and came here but I’m STILL ANGRY!

If Dogs win by 4 we have 7 points buffer, give or take one or two depending on scores

Couldn't be happier with effort and we were severly undermanned. Bit of poise late and we win.

Some massive positives going forward

Docherty into centre bounces helped
McGovern showed his class
Martin showed his ability and it all started with effort on first quarter
I liked when Durdin went up the ground
Setterfield back in the middle playing the role he got drafted for. Very good. Walsh needs to play wing so Setterfield can do the grunt work
Young was very good and Saad was a warrior
Cottrell looking better on a wing and did well on Langdon

Gutted to lose but after a good nights sleep I see many positive things moving forward. Bring that effort we can beat the Pies
I haven't watched any TV...

But l can tell you McGovern had a free run at the spoil... I thought 'we've killed this'... Have no idea how it was marked? .. Still don't??

FB... I Didn't sleep....
Agree with you...
Did a lot of what we SHOULD have done in other games.. Setters, doc, Fish Durdin through the middle...

But

Dumb stuff we do... Don't talk.. Call in each other to mark or take the ball... F'en block! Uuurggghh
(Martin block, melksham mark, young falcon, Cripps pulling ball out of Pittos hands, Walsh? gives to LOB, no block, LOB kicks under pressure... ..heaps of examples)
We do it so poorly..

Go Blues

Gawn & Jackson monstered us around the ground , both skilled and exciting footballers .
One really can’t criticize our team effort it was phenomenal but the Demons Ruckman were just sensational.

Also Melksham played a great game, opportunist and skilled.

We played dumb against St Kilda and lost

Similar issue last night

When are we going to learn about composing ourselves during crucial moments in games

It’s been an issue for so many years

However, it wasn’t a final and we get another chance next week

Pros:

Fantastic effort and intensity from an undermanned team. Outtackled the opposition.
Coaches got the match ups right this week. Saad playing half back rather than full back. Locked down on Oliver, Lever and Langdon. Tried Stocker around the ball at times.
Competitive in centre clearances for the first time in a while.
Cripps, McGovern, Lewis, Cottrell, Martin, Marchbank and Harry.
Great effort from Docherty going into midfield.
Strong game from Setterfield.
SOJ was good as well, after 2 poor weaks.

Cons:

Still not sure how we lost that.
Red time goals to the opposition.
Weiters, Charlie, Newnes, Owies and Motlop.

I thought it was Stocker who was head slammed?

I have seen posts of Stocker and Walsh both getting their heads slammed into the ground during tackles in the first quarter.
Walsh got a free against him, not sure about Stocker.
