Also find selections somewhat strange. Honey did nothing in his few senior games to show he'd add anything. I'd have preferred Dow and I'm not much of a Dow fan.
I would have retained Stocker too. Right now we need players who can stand up to the heat of finals footy. The first 20 minutes last week was as close as you'll get. Most of our players were totally spooked. Stock was one of the few who stood up in that period. I thought his next 3 quarters were somewhat average but I would have persisted with him as I think he showed he won't go to water in September.

Int: Newman Stocker Dow Durdin (Plowman)

Getting closer to our best side. Missing Pittonet Marchbank Williams Boyd Owies

What's your lineup with everyone available?

B: Boyd Young McGovern
HB: Docherty Weitering Saad
C: Williams Cripps O’Brien
HF: Durdin McKay Fisher
F: Silvagni Curnow Owies
Foll: Pittonet Hewett Walsh
Int: Kennedy Cerra Marchbank TDK (Cottrell)
Em: Motlop Newman Martin

That’s a pretty good team on paper. I don’t think anyone would dispute that’s the spine we want. The discussion points for me are:
* BP. Boyd or Stocker or Williams? I would have Williams ahead (just), but Boyd showed promise before his injury and I like Stocker’s touch of mongrel.
* Wings. Has Williams ever played on a wing for us? LOB has improved but is he good enough? We talk about our need for another tall defender and a ruck, but these ‘best 22’ teams always show me that we are short a quality winger (or two).
* 7th defender (off the bench). Is Marchbank the right fit for that role? I think I would move Williams to defence and have one of Boyd, Newman or Stocker as the 7th defender. The remaining two from that troika could be considered for a wing. Marchbank is another possible option for the wing (he played some games there during the Bolton years). Alternatively, play Martin (HF) and put Fisher on the wing? Or Cottrell on a wing and have Marchbank/Martin as sub? I keep coming back to the wings because I feel like the rest of the puzzle will resolve itself once we find those missing pieces…

williams doesn’t have the tank for a wing role the way our system uses the winger, often has to pop up as the last forward in a chain of possessions around the opposite wing and having to shut down an opposition forward in our D50.

way too much running and speed required. that’s the main reason Cotrell has been getting a go, very big tank for his age already and a good repeat sprinter (according to the stats sheet anyhow). harder to tell on afl replays with Ch7s obsession with the CUP shot.

Newnes was putrid last week - a shoe lace special handball to Motlop cost us a certain goal - and the ball swept up the other end for a Geelong goal - a real momentum killer.

It was another case of an AFL player not having the ability to handball on his non dominant side, so he tried an inside out handball. It's disappointing how often you see it.
No excuse for full time professional athletes.

I am a bit confused by the changes too.
Not sure what Dow has to do, channel 7 news reported that Richmond and Geelong are very interested in him.

Honey in for Stocker is weird.

Honestly I don't get the hype around Stocker.

Are we all hoping he makes it because he was part of the brave SOS trade?

Dow should be in. Is Cripps the only one he would replace? What if Cripps has an injury Round 23. Dow needs some senior games so that he's ready.

By thta statement, I’d say you don’t know much about football or don’t watch Stocker enough but maybe that just me and a million others who are wrong.

Most infuriating moment of the game by a mile. I still can’t get it out of my head and it will take a while for me to be able to forgive him. After earning my respect as a solid foot soldier he immediately regained plodder status in my book

was running around princes park listening to tigers v dockers and every time the momentum shifted i wanted the losing team to win, tigers to burst the freo bubble and watch them slide down the eight and dockers for obvious reasons. .

didn’t consider a draw. perfect!! at least other GF tipped teams can butcher it as bad as us in front of goal.

...which is why I've never bought the "the entire midfield have to be struck down by gastro before Dow is given a game" argument

PS. Durdin must be coach's pet...has not deserved his charmed run

The forward line really needs to lift

It has become too one dimensional

Our small forwards have been disappointing over the last few months

Crying out for a classy medium sized forward to compliment Charlie and Harry

I can see why some question Honey in because he's hardly touched it but if you look closely he had a number of quality little touches that aided teammates and I suspect against this GWS side he might get played into form.

All i want to know is how the !@#$ is obrien in again
Had a glimpse at the vfl and to my amazement as soon a s he got the ball he just went around the corner on the back flank because there was a opposition player within 2 meters of him, no looking at who was where up the ground or any other support around him. The only thing on his mind was get rid of it before someone touches me, wtf.
Does anyone know if he's hemophiliac or has a similar medical condition
