So we've lost to pies tigers and now saints.

Yeah I know. Injuries.

But the question needs to be asked - do we even deserve to play finals?

We weren’t up for the fight in the first quarter. We were better after that, but our lack of composure was very disappointing and costly.

It’s still a mystery to me why we played Newnes in defence rather than bring in Stocker.

Cerra didn’t look right.

On the positives - no injuries (well, none we know about yet!), valuable exposure for Motlop & Kemp, we lost pretty much every stat yet could easily have won.

Any team can beat any team if one isn’t on and one is
You mentally cannot be on every week
That’s what happened tonight
It happens to most teams all the time
St Kilda are half decent this season
Positives
Motlop lookout a player
So does Kemp who is clearly is better than Plowman

We can still win the flag if we get no in juries and a few back
Weitering in particular
It’s one of those seasons
I agree with one sided players
Why can’t a full time footballer use his non dominant side
And the kicking around the corner from a set shot relatively straight out in front makes no sense

Saad an absolute gun. So far ahead of everyone else in our team. No-one should criticise that he does not have right foot, does not matter, he swaps onto left in blink of an eye.

Hewitt has dropped off the last month. Charlies goal kicking. Silvagni disposal efficiency tonight, Lachie Plowman absolute fail as a defensive leader, these are reasons we lost tonight.

Plowman points his finger around in back line, pretends he knows what he's pointing at, but costs us goals, via basic skill errors, that costs us games, he should never play again.

JSOS tonight no right foot or left foot.

I love Jack's competitiveness but he got well ahead of himself tonight. Continually flew against Charlie and Harry with zero effect other than bringing his opponent into the contest.
He probably called for handballs 3 or 4 times in the first quarter. 2 or 3 times from a player who was better placed to kick the ball including Durdin who could have kicked the goal from the goalsquare.

We overpossessed the football instead of trusting our forwards and getting the ball in there. When the heat is on, you cant keep looking for the perfect disposal. Finals footy will find you out if you don't recognise the times to take territory.

Surprise, surprise, playing Cerra on the wing was a bust. He couldn't get into the game and we missed his accountability in the middle. Fisher refused to man up Zac Jones and was consistently beaten. Stocker should have come in and that decision combined with the related positional changes (Cerra/Newnes) were surprising moves by the coaches and frankly, they were piss poor ideas.

I hate losing but when you have many more opportunities only to piss them up against the wall, that kills.
Mix that with some abysmal turnovers in the middle of the ground and that was the ball game. We have been playing disciplined, conservative football out of defence but tonight Young and O'Brien decided to kick shitful floaters into the centre square. WTF is that about? as I've said elsewhere, Young is an athletic defender of a good size but his kicking is very poor.
Like last week Kemp fought back but he was towelled up early. He just refused to play in front.
We're desperate to get Pitt back. The Saints rucks continually stepped across the line and took away TDK's strength. His leap.

There was a moment in the second qtr that stuck with me.

We had a run on and had kicked 2-3, then Newnes had the ball in defence and kinda shit himself.
Passed to LOB (?) under huge pressure, turnover, goal to them and I think they got the next 2.

Home from the game.
Terrible to watch.
Saints deserved to win but had we kicked straight we would have won comfortably.
I think we handed them about 4 goals directly from stupid turnovers. O'Brien responsible for 2 of them.
We got smashed in the midfield and our forward line was very disappointing. Backline held up pretty well.
Going to be hard to make finals now.

No trains on Frankston or Sandringham, stuck on a bus.

If our players had to suffer the trip home I'm having perhaps they'd have some empathy when they try shit @#$%&! kicks

Yep. And Plowman's dropped sitter.

God he's ordinary.

Looked like we were in trouble after the first five minutes, intensity wasn't there. For third week in a row gave the opposition a start. Field kicking and kicking for goal awful, killed out of the middle again. Surely JSOS is playing hurt, give him a rest. Cerra brought back too soon? I wonder if all our injuries are starting to catch up with us, players having to play despite being sore because we've run out of options.

I wonder what attitude Voss will have to this loss. Will it be bring your mouth guards to training next week, or give them a break and move on?

I feel for our kids (Junior Carlton members < 21yo) who have endured the last 20 years, who turned up tonight, or watched on TV tonight. And watched the game expecting effort, expecting skill, expecting victory, after the shit they've endured the last 1-2 decades.

And to watch our team perform so poorly, so disappointing Carlton, so disappointing. We all deserved so much more.

That was garbage. Nothing much positive about that performance apart from Motlop’s efforts.
Goalkicking was diabolical and cost the game.
Midfield was beaten for the 3rd or 4th time in 5 games (Pies, Tigers, Saints and arguably Essendon*).
Handed them 4 or 5 goals on a platter from dumb errors.
We go as our midfield go generally and our midfield has, apart from last week, ground to a half over the last 5 weeks. They need to lift.

In the words of Rod Stewart... I don't want to talk about it.
