We haven't lost 2 in a row at all this year & I don't expect that to change today. Carlton by 26 points

Been trying to move some magnets around to see how we can get a solid team on the park.

Kennedy has been beaten up recently due to some ordinary hospital passes, but clearly his midfield time has been down, wondering if he can rest as the 3rd tall, for a game or two, which releases JSOS to play in defence - we need support down there and he has a fierce competitiveness, so feel he wont be lost down there + DNA.

Means we need to replace Kennedy in the middle which brings in Setters who has been good in the 2s for a couple of weeks.

Gives us a competitive beast in defence, gives Kennedy a rest of sorts (he is a good mark and kick so not lost forward) and replaces like for like for Setters coming in.

Like.

I'm not sure of the thinking behind putting JSOS back apart from he is tall. Has he ever played there. Are we losing more than we are gaining by doing that?

agreed.

JSOS plays a hit up forward in the middle for transition and even falls back into the D50 at times. once he gets it in the middle our players know he’s dangerous so can steam forward. (even when he mis-kicks it hits up someone running beside him :-))

he’s too important doing what he does. there’s more to being a forward than clunking it 20 metres out from goal. he does all the other stuff and as shown last week is still a threat inside the 20 metre zone if they don’t get physical touch on him or block him out.

we’re losing the games we lose lately in the middle not in the D50 in spite of our KDP injuries. having Weiters and Oscar there certainly covered for some drop off in performance in the middle but end of the day our mids have either been worked out by oppositions or out worked by oppositions. no Pitto certainly makes their job much harder at clearances but it’s also on rebound/slingshot play they’re not manning up. probably why Voss lost it after Q3 against Essendon*.

Setterfield’s form has been very good in the VFL over the past fortnight, so I thought they might have brought him into the 22 to bring some extra tackling pressure and give us another option on the wing or in the guts.

maybe it’s not midfield player KPIs on paper that we are getting beaten in lately but midfield attitude/mindset/starting positions. our mids are hardly lesser rank AFL players. it’s the system and the mental preparation that saw them flogged by Richmond in the first Qtr, didn’t adapt to weather or the oppositions method. we need to pay oppositions respect without being deferential.

if we win and geelong win today top five on ladder stays almost identical to last week. (lions and dockers swap spots). if we lose and geelong lose, geelong’s opponent (Richmond) jumps in between us and we fall one spot and become very vulnerable going forward. (can still make eight but have to win almost everything including one of either Dees or Lions matches).

We are at the stage where the most important selection decision is the Medi Sub

I don't really get this "we need to win almost everything to make the 8" talk? There is still a lot to play out this season. We are currently sitting on 9 wins. History tells us that 12 wins almost always gets you in and 13 wins guarantees you a spot in the 8.

Yes, today's game is massive in terms of top 4 aspirations and also makes it much easier for us to make the 8, however, if we lose today it is not the end of the World. We still have 8 games to go after today. Win half of them and we make the finals. Win 3 and we're borderline. Win 5 or more and we're right in the mix for top 4.

I reckon even if we lose today, we will end up on 14 or 15 wins given the key players we will regain over the next 2-3 weeks.

I am tipping an upset today, but won't be devastated if we lose.

Go Blues!!

Would have to be Setterfield for his ability to play many roles.

Who goes down first? I had a dream it was a ruckman. TDK or JSOS?

WE have overcome some of our hoodoos this year.

My son told me we have never won a Carlton respects game in orange dress.

Today is an opportunity to knock that hoodoo off the hoodoo perch

Maybe we are counting on not having an injury in the first Q.
