Very even . The cohesion is building . ..................Michael Voss take a bow . We have at last a seriously good coach . Not only are our good players firing but the improvement in the lesser lights is making the difference . Its that bottom six thing isn't it . Newnes , Cottrell , O "Brien etc are contributing .

There's a Cold Wat happening and its not going away.

Look at the spike in petrol prices today.

Look at Carlton's position on the ladder.

Look at this young coach. Not a grey hair to be seen.

Its happening.

From AFL site.

Carlton consolidates their top four position with a 30 point victory. The Blues won all key statistics, including clearances (36-28), inside 50's (64-47) and contested possessions (164-129). While they have been the best scoring team from stoppages this season, it was their turnover game that was the difference, scoring 79% of their score from turnover, which was a positive differential of 33 points.

The Game was set up for an easy Giants win.

As the announcements were made during the week the odds against us grew

The Footy World, (outside of The Carlton Believers) wanted to win for Leon:
The Giants players
The commentators
The Reporters
The Umpires
Keogh

But Carlton believed in the new Coach despite:

Travelling Interstate
Playing at a Ground we have never won on.
Playing a Team we have never beaten in Sydney
Not having won on the road this year
Playing against a seasoned Finalist

11 injured players couldn't be considered for the game
8 Best 22 players missing from the team
9 Players selected Under 22yo
Our developing young ruckman 20kg lighter than his opponent
Losing the club's biggest recruit in the first quarter

Knowing the umpires will be against us.

Talk about a win for the Ages.
This win is as big as the 2002 game without Bradley Kouta and SOS
This win is as big as Fevola's huge 8 goal haul vs Effendruggies in 2008
Sure is a Year of Transition.

Top 4 after 9 rounds. 3 games clear of 9th.
Dare to Dream.

A very important cog to the Voss structure !!
Durdin has amazing strength and technique in tackling... I don't think I've seen one of his tackles broken.... 'The Clamp'

PROS

The Fabric of the Team is Bullet proof
Carlton played 4 quarters for 3rd week in a row.
Carlton won the 3rd Quarter for 3rd week in a row.
Carlton beat Giants at Giants Stadium. Another hoodoo gone.
Won with 10 Best 22 out injured (including Williams).
Won with 9 Under 22 yo's playing
Didn't lose another player before the game

Silvagni's stats don't do him justice. The 1 %ers. The IQ. He beat Preuss twice.
Weitering a Mammoth Mountain of a man
Docherty's 60 metre goal
LOB's 50 metre goal.
Cripps, more Brownlow votes. Don't Argues were a treat.
The Fab 5 destroyed the former Best clearance team in the clearances. 36+
Durdin is the equal best small forward in the game. Best defensive running. Best Tackler.
The Baptism of Motley. Sung the song in his first game. Can only get better.

The Carlton support at the ground phenomenal, and only going to get bigger from here on.
Voss.

CONS

The News Symonds died before the game was a dampener.
Williams injury.
Lost the ruck 44-15
Umpiring

That’s a bit harsh on keogh, I’m sure he loves the club just like the rest of us underneath that gruff exterior.

Great taking my older boy to a win and glad he is seeing Carlton winning.

Crowd louder when decision made against Carlton so it felt like a Carlton home game. Lots of Blues fans.

Plowman an important cog today to play taller than required but I felt our structure helped. Either that or GWS couldn’t work out a good way out of their D50 most of the game.

Durdin can seriously play. I was not convinced after his first year but he is critical to our forward line. Sticks tackles and his kicking is top notch. Reminds of a bit of Puopolo.

Wobbly patch in 2nd quarter but more mature 2nd half performance.

Link up play between backline, midfield and forward lines much better than last year, definitely a more cohesive unit.

A nice arvo at the footy but gee the umpiring was poor - both sides copped some bewildering decisions.

How about that crowd? At least 70% blues supporters…..

Yeah, I know that, but if we look at his form, it would suggest he will belittle Carlton's win, as he did with ALL our other wins: Form.
So I'm calling it ie Williams wasn't a loss, he is $^%# like Martin, Giants have only won 2 games, so don't get carried away, posters like you don't get how important % is....

Previous years we'd play a side we had a poor record against and on a ground we haven't been able to win on. Have an honourable loss and say we had 8 players 22 and under. Not a bad effort. This time we win by 30, should've been more.
What a fantastic turnaround!

Helps to have a coach who has a good defensive Game Plan too.

Teague couldn't have coached a win in Leon's last game.

Bloody good win particularly because we had to adapt given our outs and that's what we did, we adapted, this more than anything makes me think we have finally started to become a serious team again.

And don't forget we lost the 2nd quarter. Let them back in it from halfway through the first. We only won 3 quarters. Footy is a 4 quarter game. We are shit.

We had a Plan B.

After years of barely having a Plan A, we completely changed our game plan, Cripps contesting ruck was a scary master-stroke in my opinion, it would have confused de Boer and meant GWS had to swing changes and disrupt any of their own plans.

Likewise Charlie. 'well beaten' was the media line but I don't agree. I think he sacrificed his game and knew that goals were going to need to come from other sources.

We have won games now with players kicking bags, with several kicking 2, or with a very even spread.

This game is an investment in the future.

And its a bloody good one.

Really great win.
This year, we keep knocking over hoodoos and milestones that we have struggled with in previous years.
This was a really good one - in Sydney, at Giants home, with all that went against us this week… one we’d usually lose.

Now, the next 4 weeks are huge:
Sydney and Richmond to test how we measure up against the better teams, half a season in.
Collingwood and Essendon* to continue to prove that we can win the games we are expected to win.

First up is a huge challenge to get up again after such an important win against GWS with 5 day break and still a very long and significant injury list.

This will test us. To which I say… GOOD! Bring it on!
