Apparently no love for Dow especially when it is the midfield that will probably decide the game. It usually does against GWS.

Dow instead of Kemp with Cripps and Kennedy resting forward.

Mids galore and we finally see Dow at AFL level.

I agree it is the midfield that will win the game, that’s why we do not want to bring Dow in and push our best mids into the forward line.

Just an idea, bring Kemp in and play him in defence. Move Lewis forward to ride shotgun for Charlie. Might even clunk a few.
Whatever we do it'll be a gamble, but fortune favours the brave.
Might even work. :smoking:

No doubt Young can mark it but again I just prefer to not make many changes

Don't affect other parts of the ground where we have strengths

Just replace Harry with someone or some bodies

Geez, It was $1.84 to $2 when I typed that.
Looks like the punters are jumping on board.

Our midfield is the best it has been since the 90s. It’s an obvious strength for us, generating the majority of our scores from stoppages. And yet……

De Koning, Cripps, Walsh, Cerra, Hewett & Kennedy, with O’Brien, Setterfield & a full compliment of first-choice flanks had their arses handed to them by Gold Coast.

Excuses? Maybe. Some claim a nasty bout of the squirts went through the place.

Obviously, Cripps was subbed out at 1/4 time, but that was towards the end of a 10-1 scoring run (eight scores when he was ruled out). They were well on top of us in the set pieces by then.

A dominant ruck, with enough combined size to put Cripps on an island. This match up has got a familiar feel about it.

Preuss is a man mountain. Elite levels (top 10% of all rucks) for both hitouts won and hitouts to advantage. Green, Perryman, Ward & Taranto are plenty big enough on the inside to negate our takeaways.

They might be 15th, but the luck of the draw has seen them play six games against the current top 8.

If we can win this one - on their turf, no less - we’re in for a big September.

Wet and greasy conditions in Sydney this weekend.

Might be good to go smaller and more mobile in the forward line.

That's the best news I have heard this week

Put 210 to FF is he good enough to draw a few frees?

Mirkov? He's not a dangerous mark. He's no Casboult.

I would love to see Voss pick him just to see the plan and learn more about Vossy and Mirkov.

Have you seen Mirkov chase? He doesn't.

If he doesn't get the free as a forward, he wont mark, wont win ground ball, and wont catch running defenders.

Only thing I could seee him do is give DeKoning the chop out to give DeKoning some time as a FF ... and he hasn't proved to be too dangerous there either.

Interesting.

Yes but my point was less about ability and more about simply will he draw frees as he is so damn tall.
But the lack of run etc is the obvious issue. Oh and he probably can't mark it.
Are we (I) being a bit harsh here or what?

If Mirkov plays he needs to spend all his time on the ground rucking to get best value out of him. Forget about him as a forward at this stage of his career. But even as a full time ruck, TDK is a better option.

The GC game was an outlier, don't worry about that game.

If anything we will be motivated to correct the recent poor form away.

So I am going ...

IN Hewett OUT Martin
IN Kemp OUT Harry
Maybe also Stocker in for Boyd.

With Hewett in Kennedy can go forward.
This gives us more marking options up forward.

Sydney weather report is a shower or two so it won't be pouring so I think we can pour water on the theory that it'll be wet and that will help.

We are going to have to bank on all other systems and in particular our midfield domination continuing this weekend and with superior supply we will kick a big enough score to win. And I don't advocate messing with the side much. Leave Young at FB. Leave TDK in the ruck. It makes no sense to weaken other parts of our game.

I think GWS' poor delivery to their forwards (they tend to just bang it in long which doesn't work well) should also work in our favour.

We will need to accept Preuss will probably give them a degree of dominance when TDK is being rested.

I do think the Cameron factor is a bigger threat to us than the Harry factor. 22 men vs 1 man.
But countering that, I would like to think Voss will have an ace up his sleeve too. He will be asking the lads to correct our poor form away from Victoria so far this year, and he will also be preaching the Us against THEM mantra given everyone now thinks GWS will win because the players will play for Leon. This is a close-ranks, dig-in, backs-against-the-wall moment for Carlton in 2022. If these elements can get the boys to play hard and committed football then I think we win the game because if you look at the ladder we are a better team with or without Harry. It is 90% above the shoulders.

We know with the selection committee its steady as she goes. I don't expect any more than 2 changes. Most likely Hewitt and Kemp.

I would really would like to see Dow get a run but doubt it will happen.

What is the state of Oscar McDonald? He could play forward if fit. I don't suppose they would rush back Marchbank and play Young forward?

Does anyone else think that Harry’s ‘illness’ last week might have been in his knee?

Lewis Young. :yikes: Damn someone ran over a black cat after walking under a ladder. :hitcomputer:

2 of our most important 200 cms guys out will make for an interesting game.

I guess Plowman down back and Kemp forward with SOS/Crippa/Kennedy giving a chop out.

Blues by 18 pts.

Not feeling confident.
GWS back at their true home ground, are very good on paper and will want to send their coach off on a high.
If we were at full strength then I'd have us a 50/50 chance but with key players missing it will be tough.
