1st we are very fortunate that Lycett is out for Port. This now gives us the opportunity to rest Pitto for another week if he isn't ready to go and not rush him. TDK should be able to go with Hayes. Both young bodied. Big bonus if Pitto is ready to go.

2nd - I expect our midfield to be better prepared this week, knowing Crippa isn't there, as I also expect us to give Cripps the week off. Port don't have a contested ball midfield that can hurt you, especially without Wines. Boak is their next best and surely Hewett can do the job. I would think that Walsh, Kennedy, Cerra & Hewett leading our attack should be too strong and better equipped this week.

3rd - Our backline should be able to control their forwards. Dixon normally causes us headaches. Our forward line needs to be better at the ground ball and pressure. Durdin will assist but very diasppointing effort last week from Owies, Martin, Fogarty and Fisher in allowing the easy ball out. Very disappointing. I expect one, probably Fogarty to be dropped this week so the coaches highlight this point.

4th - outside of Pitto the other in's will be interesting. Macdonald, Durdin, Dow, Stocker all getting ready to fly. My assumption is that Durdin, Dow are in's but do we bring Macdonald in as a ruck/forward? I want to see Young go again. I thought it wasn't he best but he wasn't that bad either, but will need to body more, much more. Same can be said for TDK and Harry though.

If the boys are fair dinkum about playing finals this year and having success, this game must be a good win, not just a win.

Anticipating perfect conditions at the G - Big game and looking forward to us bouncing back.

IN: Durdin
OUT: Cripps

It sounds weird but I'd make only a small change and give last week's team a chance to do better.

As of this round we're five weeks into the senior season, and the seconds will have played a solid month of footy.
I think that's a decent opportunity for us to assess who is playing well (and consistently) in the twos and make the required adjustments to the seniors.
Also, it's long enough for guys who had good pre-seasons (and got picked off of them) to have had a fair chance to show their wares in the seniors, before we, maybe, move on.

There were moments on Sunday where Vossy must’ve been wondering if he was at the right game, like ‘who the @#$%&! are these blokes?’

The end-to-end transitions from GC were straight up embarrassing for everyone in navy blue garb. Getting beaten on the overlap is one thing, but to get beaten straight up the guts - from a kick in… if Vossy didn’t blow up, he’s going to give himself an ulcer.

I’m not one of those fans that demands answers for everything, but if the boss is wanting to shore up the good early work, he might want to trot out some sort of explanation for the lethargy - in particular, the stunted game time from two prime midfielders after losing the skipper at 1/4 time. If it’s the rona, it’s the rona… if it’s completely inflexible load management, that’s just about the end of AR.

On that last point re the stunted game from Cerra and Kennedy when Cripps went down, leaving Hewett to carry the group on his own.

I feel we need to have a really hungry inside mid on the bench ready to throw him in when the other(s) are showing a lack of energy.

Interesting point re AR. Round 1 we were singing his praises.

Sidefx summed it up for us:

Quote:
so far we have won 2 x Q1, 3 x Q2, 0 x Q3 & 2 x Q4

The 3rd quarter slump should be the Coach's domain to solve.
The rest doesn't give us any pattern other than to say we go into our shells.

I think the opposition work out what we are doing during the game and adjust, and we don't...that's Voss too.

The last quarter is maybe Voss adjusting to counter the opposition set up and its too late for the opposition to adjust (twice).

May have nothing to do with fitness, but Cerra and Kennedy were not switched on let alone raring to go. So disappointing, leaving it to too few to carry the load.

I agree with this point and have been saying this since last year after the draft, we need 1 more A grade inside mid.
Kennedy was doing really well up until the last game and I thought he may just be the answer.
But I think he was exposed with his lack of speed at the contest and is why he had so many clangers and little to no impact.
For the slower midfield teams he will be good, but I still think we need one more A grade jet with pace in the middle.
The other point to take note of with this loss is that Pitto has been doing some really good ground work in the opening games and losing him has been a lot bigger than some may give him credit for.

Agree. I would also add our midfield will always be slow if we don't have the ball.

Our wingers that I have been harping on for weeks are both on the extended interchange bench. Maybe, just, maybe.

So good to see Parks in for Plowman
It’s a sad to say Plowman has played over 100 games in the Navy Blue

The thing I like about the two of them is that they get 100% out of themselves. Fisher is clearly more talented than them both but he coasts on his talent. Same with Jack Martin. Maybe we should play one or two wiggo/Mitch robbo types who just always give their best over a couple flaky troy menzel types.
