The whole football world loved Gary Crane. Brave as they come.

Ian Robertson and Gary Crane were the first wingmen I saw at Carlton in 1968.

Then in '69 Bryan Quirk came along to join the best centreline in the league....imo

Phil Pinnel replaced Quirk in 1970

Those were the days my friend.......

Unfortunately Robertson Crane and Quirk, were dissed by the Carlton hating journos of the time Tom Prior and Alf Brown and their Barrot Clay Bourke lovefest

On the contrary, those who knew, basically CFC supporters said the only centre line in the then VFL that could beat Clay, Barrot, Bourke was Crane, Robertson, and Quirk.

Still , despite what you say Junior , no way known am i writing him off yet . Our side is crying out for run , any sort of run , i don't care , so long as they run Phewwwww !

He’s not wrong though. Cottrell suffers from the same affliction as O’Brien - great at running, shite at footy.

That said, you can go a long way with desire.

It must have been highly contagious as it gave me the shits just from watching.

I heard they all had breakfast at the Suns in-house buffet with the “all-you-can-eat hash brown special” but surely it couldn’t be that…

I suppose for all our faults Sunday we still had pretty good run out of the backline....

Gold...
Might explain at least why Cerra Kennedy and Walsh seemed to be running 'flat footer'
Walsh especially didn't look right (I was thinking of the syndesmosis and Cerra... the dreaded covid)

Makes sense, half the side looked to have no run.

Yeah, it would explain why so many had bad games.

That’s why we had so much run but no carry….

Pros:

Saad was fantastic.
Williams, Hewett and Docherty very good.
SOJ competed around the ball, when De Koning didn't/couldn't.
Boyd was encouraging.
LOB had another decent game.

Cons:

Smashed in midfield.
Scored against far too easily by a team that usually struggles to score.
Inaccuracy and butchered opportunities when we had good opportunities to score. Harry and Charlie need to be more selective about when to kick around the corner.
Umpires gave them an armchair ride after the first 5 minutes. Free kick and 50 metre penalty goals were particularly galling.
Key defenders were poor.
Newman was very poor.
Kennedy had an absolute shocker.

Newman wasn't very poor
Umps didn't give them an armchair ride. You play in front, you put your head over the footy and you want the ball more, you get rewarded.
You play from behind, you're second to the footy, you expect the easy option, you're undisciplined and you get nothing.

I’m tempted to say this team has had gastro for 20 years :smoking: but as I said before 3-1 I would take after 4 games -particularly bad game last week need to really take it to a wounded Port
Get on top early
Get scoreboard pressure and grind them into the dust

Yeah, I knew that.
So did most non Carlton and Richmond football supporters.
One @#$%&! GF in '69, the Tigers trio played well ... but our boys were not disgraced on both occasions we played them that year (and lost)
