Is Setterfield really a wingman? Don't think so. Doesn't run particularly well nor is he fast. Dow would be better suited on a wing. At least give him a chance there.

I'm prepared to give Vossy a chance to work out what he wants and the best way to get there.

I suppose Voss and the coaches are still working out who is in the best 22. The majority pick themselves but those last 6 or so are often difficult to sort out. We have seen Setterfield and LOB over 4 seasons now but they have not hence the need to play them.

Plowman coming off a training block and selected in the VFL may imply Voss has Williamson and Gov ahead of him.

Ed is back...ahead of Dow, Fogarty and Newnes ???

Another look at Boyd

Ed is a better player than either Fogarty or Newnes ... still. Unless anything untoward happens to Ed he should always get a game.

But Setterfield playing. I would prefer Dow.

Interesting that LOB is being persisted with over Dow. Message there I suggest.

I agree with you Teddy. I watched the 2013 EF last night and saw where Ed got the tag as a shit kick: 2 OBOF's with 2 consecutive kicks, but he knows his limitations and fights with everything he's got to win a contest. That's something Dow needs to bring to his game, IMHO.

I really like Dow and feel he's been maligned by the media and that has rubbed off on supporters, and....who knows what influence that has had on teahue and Voss? None probably.

LOB is a wingman. I believe everyone considers LOB's role in the team as such with the skillset and physical attributes he brings to the table, and that's where he has to succeed if he's going to win hearts and minds, and get another contract. I thought he played really well last week.

I haven't written off Dow, and strongly believe Voss will shape him for the better...for now, in the VFL.

I'm not sure if Dow is better than Setterfield as a wingman, but I do know I prefer Dow, coz I'm a tad bias and want to see him succeed as an AFL footballer...I want that for Setterfield too.

may the best man win.

I don't think Voss has Dow competing for OBrien's spot, and it seems Voss has trained Dow all preseason to play a midfield role, and he still is.

I heard Tim Clarke talking about Jack Carroll as an exciting prospect. I was hoping he would have played tonight.

The questions on Setterfield's ability are difficult to know. He looks like he's half paced, but I'm sure he isn't coz he keeps up and I do like his willingness to get back in defence to take the mark or to spoil or to be that option out from defence. Dow hasn't been given that chance IMO, but then, I have no idea about Dow's endurance.

Dow's 1st quarter vs Effendruggies last year before he got his face smashed in...11 disposals...he looked like he belonged because he can do that.

Everyone thinks Carroll is an exciting property. Some think he's "hot" property and should be playing midfield or wing.

Did someone say wing?

If he does improve quickly and makes a fist of that wing position, we might have a situation like the small forward conundrum before Betts came back. We were bereft of a small forward let alone small forwards, plural. Now we have Durdin Owies Fisher all challenging for that position, and now there's Motlop showing great signs as an 18yo. I don't consider Honey as a small forward: he's 184cm.

When Walsh comes back, Honey comes back, he maybe releases Martin for a wing, Philp build his endurance, LOB makes one wing his, Setterfield trying to hold down the other, Williamson pushes for wing,as he gets pushed out of defense, if given an opportunity, with so much depth for defenders , or Docherty gets pushed out of defence to a wing, then Carroll comes good...we may have a good problem for the wing by half year, and Newnes, Cottrell and maybe even Ed might be looking on from the sidelines.

Pressure is on for LOB and Setterfield to make the wing there's coz no doubt Carroll is coming, and I'm not living in hope, he seems to be the real deal, an accumulator, makes time stand still and he has a real deadly left foot.

Kicking out of defence and Ruck appear to be weaknesses.

Apart from that a hell of a lot to like so far.

Geez setterfield just doesn’t look to have the intensity of an AFL footballer.

Harry has the fumbles big time.

Cripps looks to be moving a lot better and keeping it simple

Yeah Setterfield sticks out as being off the pace.

Not sure on Jordan Boyd as well.

Newman isn’t as good as he thinks he is.

If Kennedy can keep up this form, and Cripps can get back to somewhere near his best, and you add in Cerra and Hewett, we suddenly have a bloody deep midfield
