The entire injury situation at this club needs looking at. From the ability of individuals to hold up, to the management of players and injuries, to the element of luck in all this.
It has just been diabolical for years and was one reason (but certainly not the only reason) that we didn’t win more games.
At one point we basically didn’t have a backline. At another point our midfield was thread bare.
Something needs to change. Whether that’s removing constantly injured players, training and recovery methods, changing the head of high performance.
I don’t know what the answer is but we cannot roll out the exact same players, high performance manager and training and recovery methods and expect a different outcome next year.
Needs to be some change.

We don't need a witch hunt , but its an area that has to be looked at for sure . Its costing us .

Another important out in Walsh this week. Saad and Weitering both looked pretty sore to me.

Credit to those who got Williams ready to play.

Yeah Chook , they have done a terrific job getting players back from injuries . My problem is why there are so many injuries . Surely its more than bad luck .

Hewett was never close to playing and is now going in for back surgery according to Brad LLoyd.

That's just great.

Has anybody ever successfully had back surgery and gone on to thrive???

37 players used this season, equal to West Coast. The only person to survive the cleanout from top to bottom last season was Andrew Russell. I'm not saying he's responsible but surely his position and his methods warrant closer scrutiny beginning right now? It's not the first time we've poached the King Dingaling of High Performance and it's been a complete fizzer - first Buttifant and now AR.

This is our CEO's take on the injury riddled year we've endured

Quote:
Carlton’s season was derailed by injuries, with over 10 players unavailable consistently across the season.

Sam Walsh was a late withdrawal with a back injury for Round 23, while the likes of Adam Saad, Adam Cerra, Caleb Marchbank and Jacob Weitering played through niggles.

The Carlton CEO gave his thoughts on whether the high performance team needed to come under scrutiny.

“I think we’ve been looking at that on an ongoing basis and we’ve had so many injuries this year it’s sort of out of proportion,” Cook said.

“I don’t know exactly what’s going on there and I’m not sure anyone does. From afar, Vossy’s brought a very combative style of game, lots of contest, lots of energy, and it has taken its toll a bit. I think that’s one thing.

“The other is that there is still a lot of younger players in that group and they’re evolving, that’s an issue.

“And the third issue, and if you looked at our injuries, you’ll find that the majority were actually collision injuries and not overuse injuries. That becomes an issue as well.

“Without doing some sort of investigation, that’s how I’m seeing it on the periphery.

“I think we need to have a little bit of a look at it, but I’m not too sensitive about it at this point of time.

“I think Vossy’s game will evolve in the next year or two and we’ll become an even more intense side, a more combative style, and maybe we have to think about the kinds of players we recruit – inside versus outside – but that’ll be up to the recruiting people as well.”

So pitto made his injury worse?

Not liking the sound of Hewett report..."expected to" be back for "most of" pre season. We've heard this shit before.

Or the initial treatment was ‘just rest up mate, she’ll be right in a couple months’.

On BF, rumour that Walsh had a disc injury and should not have returned.
I think it was fairly obvious he wasn't right for the last few months.
The medical dept at our club is 3rd rate.

Returned from when?

Bloke played 20 straight games - missed the first and last.

Nah, he was in All Australian form...every game.

Must have happened in the locker rooms after his last game. Jezza lives.

Yeah . And he also mentioned he would have been happy not to have touched the ball in those last two games if it meant we won the game and played finals ...................and the Brownlow outdated ? Bullshit . It has been around since the game started and has continuously brought us great champions of the game time and time again . A great award that has stood the test of time and may it continue in its current format . Rather the umpires than some tricked up johnny come lately fancy dan bullshit panel of so called experts who would have there own bias's .
