When do we get the full weekly update so we can be pleasantly surprised that player x has had a mishap and will be out for 6 weeks longer than expected, or player y who seemingly got through last weeks game perfectly fine, has copped an injury and will be out for 6 weeks?

Not only is McDonald our only real tall defensive back up for Young, he can also pinch hit in the ruck or key forward. He'd easily be getting a game with us at the moment if he was fit.

But LT he is not a viable option.
Terribly injury prone.
And Young has gone past him in a matter of weeks - Young can actually mark the ball - and if Marchbank gets a good run at it he will go past Old McDonald in a flash.
Voss said when he arrived at Carlton that the best ability is availability. Expect him to not be very forgiving at the end of the year with injury riddled players.
And you don't need to be a genius to realise the club will look to bolster its tall defensive stocks, and I bet you they'll recruit players who can actually get on the park. They'll also look to address the ruck / tall forward issue that has us troubled with Pitto and McKay both out at the same time.
Old McDonald might help us now but guess what he is out indefinitely with another injury. What a joke.

Im happy for them to put McDonald on the rookie list as insurance and play him in the ressies to see how his body holds up as a back up when we need him.

Going forward, Weitering, Young, Marchbank (if he stays on the park, otherwise unfortunately he needs to go too). We need to get more KPP players that can play back or forward. We have heaps of rotating mids now, focus should be on KPP, maybe small quick backs and wingers. Maybe another ruck that is mobile as well. Pittonet has been a bit injury prone of late too.

If they believe they can fix McDonald's back issue we keep him. He has shown enough and is only just 26

Weitering & Young are the other genuine defensive talls. McGovern is a third tall and so is Marchbank. We need at least one more genuine tall KPD

IMO we also need a Ruck/Fwd (I would look at Connor Ballenden in mid season draft) and another KPF at years end if we can find one.

At the end of the season a mature back up ruck like a Callum Sinclair would be handy on our list whilst Mirkov develops

Bottom line is Carlton has possibly more injured players over the past 4 years than any other club.

With our soft tissue injuries ruling out players nearly on a weekly basis. Impact injuries fair enough, can’t control them but soft tissues is partly about preparation and management.

Russell and his team should be in the cross hairs IMO

Absolutely 100% this.

I see your point but don't necessarily 100% agree.
Russell and co have done wonders with Charlie, Harry, Walsh etc.
We drafted McGovern, Marchbank, Martin, O'mac and Williams to name a few that we knew already had soft tissue injury issues.
They can sometimes be managed but other times it's inevitable they will constantly get re-injured, especially fast twitch fibre muscles.
We needed the talent at the time and got what we could, now we can start looking for more durable players to fit our game style as we move forward.
Or we may have to look at adjusting roles as to help mitigate re-injury of the more prone players.

Correct.

Doubt his back will ever be reliable enough and he hasn't shown that much in the few games he's played, in defence anyway.

The problem is recruitment. We keep recruiting players with history of injury...

Marchbank
Ronald McDonald
McTissue
Fartin Martin

By next season Mirkov will be ready to fill in as ruck for the seniors, no need for a mature age backup, if we needed such, it was this year.

Looks like it’s the “Levi Casboult” position that’s most urgent to fill in the mid season draft, and end of season draft. Then best available.

I think wing isn’t such a big deficiency, it’s a position many can fill, they just need discipline and running power.

So if we have two picks. One is a spot to fill Liam Jones, and the second is to fill Oscars spot. If we are keeping Oscar, then we have one too many players so potentially need to delist an extra person if we want to keep both picks. Will be tricky come seasons end, as we have to promote Owies too. Anyone shed anylight on this situation.

20/20 hindsight but we picked the wrong year to de-list Levi Casboult.

Problem with the injuries to our key players, is that they are long term, 8+ weeks injuries.
Very hard to cover that type of player for such a time.
Players out for 1-2 weeks, you can adjust short term, but I’m starting to feel we might feel the long term pinch soon.
Need the rest, especially KP players like Young, Weits, SoS, Charlie, TDK, Kemp, etc. standing.

Yeah , agree , and thats why Kemp coming on is so important . I thought his game against GWS was EXTREMELY promising .

Agreed, looked a little unsure early but once he adjusted to the tempo he looked good

In more positive news, the update also says that Honey will resume in the VFL this week.

Its good news but he has to get back playing good footy then get past the conga line of players that are in front of him playing similar roles
