Not if you ask opposition supporters on social media. Apparently every team has this many injuries and manages OK, plus all of our injury list are D-Grade nobodies. :garthp:

George Hewett games per season:

2016: 24
2017: 24
2018: 23
2019: 22
2020: 6
2021: 21
2022: 15*

No red flags there IMO, just the Carlton bug.

I'm pretty sure every player in the comp has been injured at some stage in their teens and in their 20's.

If not, they would be less than 1% of the 700 players playing every year.

Life goes on after injury. Gawn 2 knee reconstructions. You should see his last 3 contracts post knee surgery.

Durability is so important when attempting to win premierships. Good injury runs definitely make a difference.

No point having quality players if they can’t get on the park.

We recruited McGovern, Williams and Martin on big coin who all had a history of durability issues.

Not sure if that is smart recruiting. You can carry a few with long term injury issues but we have too many. Marchbank is another example when the return on investment has been poor.

Exactly. He was a solid citizen at Sydney.

Expected.

He missed 6 or 8 weeks at the Swans when it flared up after a bad hit.

Get him to wear a Titanium shield next year so when those prix aim to maim Hewett again, as directed by their coach, they hurt their knee instead of Hewett.

Fair points but I’ll raise you a Daniher, McCarthy and Cockatoo at Brisbane
All with histories of durability issues and all magically fixed when they went to Brisbane
Maybe our fitness/high performance or whatever they call that department these days needs fixing
Russell is on big coin and I am sure some will point to Charlie but @#$%&! me this shit has gone on too long and it’s really really hurting us

We simply had too many injuries for too long, and not enough depth to cover the injured players themselves, or the players forced into other positions.

Then as soon as we got some players back, another crop got injured.

Interesting that there was no update re. Kennedy in yesterday's report.

Also Durdin was listed as unavailable for selection in last week's report, yet was named the sub and came on and looked good.

Wonder if Kennedy's a sneaky chance to come back early?

I was wondering about that. It would be great if we could get him back for next week's game, along with 1 or 2 others.

Carlton needs to win one more game to make the eight. They will have to do so without their fearless leader and half their starting midfield … and at least 14 unavailable players pending this week’s medical report.

Quote:
Sam Walsh and Adam Cerra remain from the first-choice on-ball unit and will be forced to carry a heavy load.

Paddy Dow was poor in his second game of the year against Brisbane, but simply must keep his spot and take on that third spot in the starting midfield rotation.

Zac Fisher will likely also continue to rotate through as he has done this year.

Beyond that? How do the Blues compete with the size and power of Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Jack Viney?

Ed Curnow would be nice, but he suffered a hamstring setback in the VFL. David Cuningham also remains sidelined as he returns from a torn ACL.

You can't be expected to play at your best with so many injuries. I dont care how big ones heart is.

Ignoring suspensions & ‘test’, there’s half a dozen, at most, that might be called upon in this situation.

Including Marchbank is harsh. He had a broken vertebrae and a knee reconstruction. Both those injuries are just bad luck, nothing to do with any previous ongoing injury issues. Williams certainly had calf injuries at GWS but I do not think McGoverns soft tissue injuries relate to any history. More likely his injuries are related to not being fit enough.

Injuries to second choice players still hurt though.

A lot of the time we're replacing firsts with thirds
