Walsh being out means we have Dow or Kennedy to step into some big shoes. Adding Cerra and Hewett to the list this year have stopped me heading to Bunnings for a length of rope and a rickety chair. Bring on round 1, with a team with depth and me being positive we can cover the huge loss Walsh creates. G |

Durdin and Kemp played last 2 games of the season for a taste of things to come. Two players pushing for a spot. I have Kemp ahead of Plowman and Young at this stage for a few reasons, but other than what he's shown thus far this preseason, its his mobility, versatility, confidence, daring and potential....yes that word potential. Durdin vs Owies vs Fisher vs Motlop for small forward position. 4 weeks to stake their claim. |

You watched him train and would have seen something you like against other small forwards. Do you think Owies Fisher and Durdin will play round 1? Personally I think only 1 of those 3 will be picked, but chance of 2. |

If Boyd continues to impress and makes Stocker's spot in the backline his own from round 1, Docherty can be released to a wing or Williams in the starting mids with Cripps and Hewett. There's plenty of options to take Walsh's spot in the midfield, but no one can replace walsh. I still feel we can beat these pumpkin Heads in round 1. Ed to start on a wing and go straight to Dustin and stick to him, get under his skin, stiflr him. Dustin is their match winner. |

In Round 1 opener last year, Carlton half of our of Best 23 players out injured or suspended: Martin, Newman, Betts, McGovern, Charlie Curnow, Marchbank, DeKoning and McGovern all out injured, Martin to top things off just before the game and Williams suspended from a hit on a Saint in praccy game...FMD! and Philp was on the rise also out with a groin. Cuningham underdone and not selected. Do you remember how you felt before that game??? Casboult played on one leg. Murphy played injured. Jack Silvagni should have been paid a free kick for holding the ball with his miraculous lunging tackle on McIntosh. Instead Jack was subbed off for the rest of the game. Harry McKay showed first signs of shoulder discomfort missed 3 easy shots at goal with his new kicking style. We played with less than half a side against the Premier missing only one player, Prestia.....and only lost by 25 points. Of course we can beat these Big Heads. |

In the Round 1 game last year, with half the side out injured or suspended and carrying a couple injured players, Cripps and Walsh started the game on fire with 11 possessions each in the First, Newnes played his best game for 2021, Weitering, Saad and Ed starred too, as did Docherty apart from a couple very costly errors...and that was about it. Tigers had 34 more inside 50 entries than Carlton, and some of our Defenders did a pretty good job defending under the circumstances. Jones allowed Reiwoldt get 4 easy goals and had his kick smothered by Dustin who scored a goal before half time, in a game we lost by 25 points. Tom Williamson leaked a few goals playing too attacking and too loose for a backman, and got caught a couple of times. Sam Docherty played with a busted shoulder after half time and couldn't stretch his arms to hold marks he would normally take aplomb...leaked 2 easy uncharacteristic goals because of this injury. OBrien made a couple very costly errors kicking to an opponent and getting caught resulting in another couple of goals against. WE GAVE THEM 10 easy goals. Carlton kicked 2 goals 6 in the 3rd Q to kick ourselves out of the game, whilst they kicked goals from a plethora of entries. Of course we have a chance to beat them with or without Walsh, Marchbank, Stocker and Cuningham. We have a huge chance to turn the tables on Round 1. |

I'd be surprised if Doc played.... I would think that he needs a little more time to put on bulk and then turn that into muscle, then get match fit... I could be (hope I'm) wrong... Go Blues |

I’m really fascinated to see how Voss sets up and what changes he has to some players positions. Can’t wait! Assuming Stocker, Docherty, Cuningham, Marchbank and now Walsh aren’t ready, then I think we are looking at something like this. Plowman Young McGovern Williams Weitering Saad Hewett Cripps O’Brien Kennedy CCurnow Fisher JSoS McKay Martin Pittonet/TDK Cerra Dow Setterfield Boyd/Williamson Durdin/Honey Kemp If the PS form of Boyd comes true, then that is a huge bonus. I have everything crossed he can hold down a defensive spot. Releases Stocker, Williams and/or Doc. |

Go Blues Didn't seem to be a problem in the intra club games. He was close to BOG in the last one in front of public. Looked like the leader we know he is, and was recognised as such by the new leaders, and was attacking with confidence and running really well....sounds like he's primed for the wing IF Williams plays back and Boyd replaces Stocker. IF. |

I have everything crossed he can hold down a defensive spot. Releases Stocker, Williams and/or Doc. That's the spirit Surrey. Let the discussions begin. Firstly, you're sticking your neck out backing Williamson IMO. Young vs Oscar Plowman/ Kemp ??? Probably Plowman gets firt dibs. Kemp for mine. Dow in the guts. That's gutsy by Voss, when there's a tougher breed in Williams and Hewett with Cerra already in there for the give me. Hey, they've got to rotate the mids anyway, so I hope Dow makes it this year. Haven't heard much praise thus far in the preseason...just plenty of hope. I like 2 rucks. I don't like Jack in the ruck. Prefer Jack to rotate with Cripps or Hewett in the guts, and TDK swings in a FP when that happens. Setterfield? Another I have n't heard much praise, but I like what he was doing 2 years ago. He must have been carrying a niggle in our injury plagued 2021. I love Honey and Kemp...or is that Honey and Hemp? I can't remember. ![]() BV like Durdin for round 1. Good Onya Surrey. Lovin your passion !! |

Assuming no Walsh or Stocker and both Marchbank and Docherty are match ready, this is the team I would like to see play Richmond. Marchbank Weitering Plowman Williams Young Saad Carroll Cerra Dow Fisher C.Curnow Martin Motlop Mckay Silvagni R: De Koning Cripps Kennedy I: Hewett Docherty E.Curnow Kemp 23rd: McDonald |

Assuming none of the infirmed can go… Def: Weitering, Young, Plowman Def/Mid: Saad, Williams, Kemp, Newman, Williamson Ruck: Pittonet Mid: Cripps, Hewett, Cerra, Dow, Ed Curnow, Kennedy, Carroll Fwd/Mid: Silvagni, Martin, Fogarty Fwd: McKay, Charlie Curnow, McDonald, Durdin For mine, Walsh, Stocker & maybe Docherty are the only ones missing from our best outfit. There could be a case to be made for Fisher, Honey, Newnes, McGovern or even Motlop to come in, but I just really want to see Carroll in action. The photos suggest that young fella has put some work in over the summer. |
