Ciaran Byrne a half back flanker ? yeah , but a bloody good one . He was showing plenty till it fell apart . That hard running off the halfback was eye catching . When he got going he kept the ball in front of him and never overran the ball and didn't fumble . A one touch player . What is it about those Irishmen . So many of the are like that eg Zac Touhy / Taidgh Kennelly ..................the circumstances when he left are a bit hazy to me but like Bondi i felt let down . But still , like life , things happen good and bad and we must look forward . I"m prepared to overlook that shady stuff from the past and give him a go . Seriously talented player was Ciaran .

Thinking about it , Byrne was very similar in movement to Peter Motley . Not as good as Motley of course but similar in movement . That driving run and beautiful kicking action .

Yeah, we redrafted O'Brien with pick #6

We also drafted Domanic Akuei to the Cat B list.

And Cottrell with #24

I wouldn't be totally against the idea of sneaking a course of HGH through young Dom. He's in the books as 76kg, but that looks a bit generous.

I suppose they could just feed him, but who can be stuffed waiting that long??

This kid shows a lot of promise.

watched a quarter of vfl against geelong at Princess Park on the way past. the way he jumps at me he ball is something else.

once Akuei develops his disposal skills, which he’s obviously never had a chance to from a young age unlike most recruits, and once he gets more insight into the game he’s got all the potential in the world i reckon. really good pick if he develops to potential.

i agree with this alot, but you need a starting point to be able to do that, i feel like we are only just starting at that point now after some very shit years.

recent aquisitions in Cerra and Hewitt are prime examples of recruiting the right players for the right positions .. their impact has been incredible.

pretty sure Crippa agrees.

Spot on, and that has been his behaviour on a consistent basis.

Pre draft they interview these players and ask all sorts of ridiculous questions like "if 3 people fall out of an aeroplane and you could only save 1, which one and why?"
The reason for interviewing is to work out if they have the drive to succeed. Would they be willing to do the work required. We know they have the talent but do they have the burning desire.
Given he has seemingly drafted so many.

dying to know the answer the gets you a contract at the best clubs!!

even psychometric testing is largely guesswork. narcissist, for example at experts at faking emotional responses and providing exactly the answers that people expect or want to hear. They observe others and copy and completely like empathy for others. I’m not suggesting any of our players or coaches or anyone are slightly narcissistic, or even full bottle, psych narcs, but I will note that the corporate world is absolutely full of them and the higher. You go, the greater, the concentration per 100 people, in my limited experience and discussing it with others involved in changing workplace cultures etc. not for profits too, i could tell some stories.

They were?

Was Tony Jones on the same table? If so ... they may have been snubbed till the AFL put on an extra table...can't imagine why Voss was on that table and not on players or the Exec table with John Nichols, Mike Fitzpatrick, Cookie, sayers....

Interesting.

Now I understand why Vossy wasnt caught up in the hysteria of the night being the only Carlton person on that table.

My understanding is that Carlton had two tables.

So gold coast are offering up Jack Bowes and pick 7 for a salary dump!?!

Bowes must be on 2mill a season - what the heck

This is why I am angry that the AFL handed the Suns a 3 year rescue package with so many priority picks when they just stuff up their salary cap and got rewarded.
I guess it is easy to give up a high draft pick and player when they received that package.

It’s tempting, but imagine the impact on the players if Ed was delisted to make room for Bowes and his pick 7?

Whichever club takes the bait is following the “win at all costs” formula that leads to situations such as hawthorns current one.

It’s ok as long as the draft is not compromised….I mean the integrity of the AFL draft….
Sorry forgot my English language skills - integrity and AFL should not be used in the same sentence.

Bingo Kezza. Even more, they now change the rules to allow salary cap dumps ..... there is no bias against some teams they say.

I like the offer to Byrne. It is one thing to get these Irish kids over when the list is diabolical. It's another thing to offer them a spot in a team that should play finals. And he might stay, and some kid we've never heard of comes instead.

Willing to negotiate. How about we just take pick 7 and call it square. No need for the sun's to give up so much.

I read that Gold Coast have had 9 top 10 picks in four years and have pick 7, three second round picks and two 3rd round picks this year. They also could have four academy players available to them next year.
They are trying to free up salary cap space so they can re-sign these players.
From memory part of their rescue package was that any academy players from NT are not required to give up any draft pick for them.
I can't believe there was no outrage about this, this is so unfair on other clubs who have struggled for years.

These are not football clubs in the north, just advertising arms of the AFL.

As much as despise Geelong I’d rather a club with some soul win than another Frankenstein created to generate revenue
