So gold coast are offering up Jack Bowes and pick 7 for a salary dump!?!

Bowes must be on 2mill a season - what the heck

This is why I am angry that the AFL handed the Suns a 3 year rescue package with so many priority picks when they just stuff up their salary cap and got rewarded.
I guess it is easy to give up a high draft pick and player when they received that package.

Bingo Kezza. Even more, they now change the rules to allow salary cap dumps ..... there is no bias against some teams they say.

I read that Gold Coast have had 9 top 10 picks in four years and have pick 7, three second round picks and two 3rd round picks this year. They also could have four academy players available to them next year.
They are trying to free up salary cap space so they can re-sign these players.
From memory part of their rescue package was that any academy players from NT are not required to give up any draft pick for them.
I can't believe there was no outrage about this, this is so unfair on other clubs who have struggled for years.

These are not football clubs in the north, just advertising arms of the AFL.

As much as despise Geelong I’d rather a club with some soul win than another Frankenstein created to generate revenue

I like that description of the teams who are not in traditional AFL territory: Frankensteins.

Too many concessions after too many concessions were given to them.
Then the AFL create FA which had the opposite effect than spruiked by the AFL on these Frankensteins.

The following players, along with Acres, can be considered new recruits next year (hopefully they stand for 20 rounds and deliver):

Marchbank
Cuningham
Williams
McGovern
Pittonet
Philp
Boyd
Ed Curnow

We just need to hear that Harry is contracted to Carlton for the next 5 years and we deliver.

I find these posts entertaining.

There will be some major injuries so it all balances out.

Stocker being let go and Setterfield being told to explore options tells me the club have made some pretty tough calls probably to free up cap space. Both players can play. Setterfield was handy late in 2022. Interesting.

I'm happy to be ridiculed for what I'm going to say but Ciaran Byrne reminded me a little of...Peter Motley...Err, I've just added this now because I decided to read the threads and saw someone else say the same thing..Doh!!!!

Just had that glide and poise about him...Agree with C, SIGN HIM UP!!!!

Sure, but to my mind being told to explore your options is different to keeping one's powder dry until the trade period is over. Might be we're waiting to see how much salary we can offer, for example.

I can see the similarities in looks and the way they ran: looked well balanced.

I thought Motleys timing to mark the ball at the highest point was incredible given he was only 6'1". Byrne not so much.

Byrnes career was stalled by Travis Varcoe. A champion at cleaning blokes up after they got rid of the ball.
A shit attribute for an AFL footballer. Almost in the Byron Pickett class.

Pickett would run past the ball and clean up a player who had his eye on the ball and was wide open. A nasty, dirty piece of work.

I think it was in this thread someone observed the incredible ability of Cats to attract starts players from other clubs and I noted that Issac Smith had gone unmentioned — not to be underestimated and defo a gun outside midfielder to be considered in their elite talent list.

I stand vindicated.

Don’t be surprised if Setterfield is at Geelong next year. I’ll spew but good luck to him.

Let’s hope so. They’ve been generous trade partners in the past.
