Really? Williamson & Fogarty will probably be delisted. And probably OMac (rookie list). Maybe Setterfield too. That’s three from the primary list and one from the rookie list. Who else gets moved on?

I wouldn’t be cutting too deep personally, especially if we can improve the list balance by bringing in another tall or two in this week’s MSD.

I did say could. It’s about what we can bring in and balancing, improving our list. We need some talls and outside run. At the moment Newnes, Ed Curnow, Setterfield. Williamson, Fogarty, Marchbank, Parks, McDonald, Cottrell, Boyd, McGovern need to show more or prove their fitness

Newnes, Cottrell and Boyd are probably safe being regularly in the team or emergency.
Depends how much they want to turnover and mindful a bunch of late pick 18yo are unlikely to offer more.
We certainly need to look closely at those who are injured more often than not

Agree. Be interesting to see what they do. We definitely need to improve our depth and availability

Slow players with the ball look quicker than slow players without the ball.

YEah, but watching Saad close in at warp speed on a hapless forward waiting for the ball to drop is a thing of beauty!

I agree that those you mentioned (and you could probably add Cunningham, Dow, Honey & Philp to the list) will be looked at, but I would be surprised if we moved on as many as eight. You only cut them if you can replace them with something better. I don’t think we’ll have the picks to do that this year. Hopefully we can adjust the balance of our list through this week’s MSD, then turnover 3-5 at the end of the season via ND/DFA/RD. I doubt we’ll be big players in the trade period.

CARLTON have Picks 13 & 22 in tonight's Mid Season Draft 2022.

Vacated by Jones and McDonald

Quote:
List chasm: Due to the mounting injury toll, they must target key-position players – especially in defence. While the Blues are a top-four contender this season, they have an opposition-score-per-inside-50 percentage of 44.1 – ranked 11th in the competition. And with Liam Jones retiring pre-season, Oscar McDonald ruled out for the rest of the season and both Jacob Weitering and Mitch McGovern now considered at least six weeks away, the Blues need a tall backman that can slot into the side,

Possible number of draft selections: 2 (first selection Pick 13)

Draftees to consider: It’s understood the Blues are keen to target a mature-age key-position player – and that was before Weitering’s injury on the weekend. They’re keen on former Kangaroo turned Glenelg key defender Sam Durdin, who’s averaging 14.9 disposals and 5.5 marks at SANFL level this year and recently represented the league against the WAFL. But ex-Brisbane tall Connor Ballenden would also appeal due to his versatility, especially with Harry McKay and Marc Pittonet sidelined for a few more weeks. Ballenden has been starring in the SANFL for Woodville-West Torrens playing as a ruck-forward and is the only prospect to have nominated extra financial terms under the AFL’s rules. The Blues are also monitoring Northern Bullants defender Mutaz El Nour, who’s averaging 17.9 disposals and 6.3 marks per game, and Box Hill Hawks big man James Blanck.

The above says it all.

If luck is on our side we could have Ballenden at pick 13 and Durdin at pick 22.

Fingers crossed. We need a bit of luck.

...and on our radar are 2 wingmen:

Quote:
The Blues are one of several clubs linked to Port Adelaide’s Karl Amon, who’s contemplating a move home to Victoria at season’s end. An unrestricted free agent that spent many years working under Michael Voss during the latter’s Power stint, Amon to the Blues would make a lot of sense. They have been linked to sweet-kicking Crow Lachie Sholl.

David King said of Sholl he could become the best kick in the league in the next couple of years: ex Rising Star.

Ballenden & Durdin are exactly what we need. Teakle would be my other option.

That would really shape our list and allow us to go to the draft at the end of the year and top up with the best talent whilst also helping our Salary Cap

I’m sure we can knock that out him once we get him.

Son of ex-Blue Brett?

Yep, he is. Brett didn’t play enough games for the father-son rule to apply.

So we have picked up Sam Durdin & Will Hayes. Surprised we didn't pick up Ballenden but no one else did either.

Durdin will step straight in to fill Weitering's spot and is more depth for tall defenders which we lack. 26 next week

Hayes has been impressive at Reserve level and is tough inside ball winner. Good for depth. 27 next week

Tough inside ball winner?
Are we looking at the same player? Hayes is a slight running machine that we will play on the wing.
He's not there for depth IMHO. He's there to play wing almost immediately.

Reserves games I've been to this year he has played a lot on ball and inside. Won a lot of his own ball. Different to what he did at the Bulldogs but agree he can play wing as well.

Building an elite team for sustained success.

The addition of Cerra and Hewett have been fantastic for the club.
The renaissance of Cripps and Docherty have been like 2 additonal AA's.

Matt Lloyd's top 5 players at the halfway mark of season 2022 are Weitering at No.3 and Cripps is the best player in the comp.

Matt Richardsons Rolling AA team has included Weitering, Docherty, Walsh & Charlie Curnow.

Reigning Coleman Medallist still considered in the Top 5 KP Fowards recently

Champion data have uncovered the skillset of some of the Blues

Quote:
Carlton has the most quality kickers in the game, boasting more players with a top kick rating than any other club.

Exclusive analysis by Champion Data has uncovered the classiest kicks in the league for every team, with the Blues having six players inside the top 50 overall based on their kick rating this season.

Off the back of his elite ranking for kicks and disposals, forward Zac Fisher owns the highest kick rating for the Blues, who also boast Adam Saad, Charlie Curnow, Nic Newman, injured key defender Jacob Weitering and Zac Williams in the top 50.

There's a lot of class in the Best 22. No wonder Adam Cooney thinks Carlton's best is the best footy he's seen in 2022, outside of reigning Premier Melbourne.

We are building ... with eyes on wingmen Amon, Sholl, and signing of wingman Hayes, Carlton is serious about filling the wing positions with bonafide wing men.

Go Blues
