It's actually a joke you can lose your job over a vaccine.

But, I wouldn't give up my job over it.

It's not a joke to those with LT LC and those who've lost loves ones to C19

It is a free world, but it's all about those grey areas. I wonder how many team mates are a bit miffed by all this.

I respect we all had a choice as to whether we would get vaccinated or not.
I am fully vaccinated and did so when I became eligible.
Sure, there was that small doubt in the back of your mind as to whether I would have any reaction to it.
I didn't and don't know anyone who had any adverse reactions.
With around 87% of Victorians now double dosed we have been able to open up and living relatively normal lives.
You have to wonder if everyone decided not to be vaccinated where we would be right now.
The hospitals would likely be completely over run and there would be many more deaths.

Work place safety issue unfortunately. Same too in much of the world so best we get used to it. Can't have someone coming into the club potentially spreading the virus, which can affect players and, by extension, their families, especially elderly grandparents. Opens a business up, or club in our case, for legal action. Plus it can affect the competition if a club can't play.

Plenty of people on here who were more than happy to pull the "Stick to football, champ" card to Adam Goodes and Héritier Lumumba are now suddenly applauding Liam Jones' expert knowledge of vaccinations that suddenly turned up overnight...

I don't agree with his stance but it's a free world . His decision to retire is a good one, can't have him near the captain

Getting vaccinated would have been a smarter one

His decision.

I don't agree with it, but I actually applaud him for sticking to his beliefs and not giving them up for money.

Well done and wish him all the best for his future.

If you don't agree with it how can you applaud it?

How do you applaud someone who has such warped beliefs?

Where would society be if we all had his viewpoint?

Absolutely, in your and my eyes at least

But he's made his call and if he's going to be a risk then best he steer clear of our captain

It's all rather baffling

We don’t know his specific circumstances so I’m not going to bag the guy.

From a Carlton perspective, it’s disappointing but it is what it is. He is almost 31 and has chosen to walk away from the industry. He will find himself excluded from most other industries as he starts his post-AFL life. I feel like that’s “punishment” enough without us attacking him - particularly as we don’t know all the circumstances.

Good luck Liam. I’m afraid you might need it. :?

I'm really disappointed. Nothing that can be done though.

If he changes his mind next year & tries to make a comeback, I will vomit

Are we all certain that the reason is vaccine hesitancy/refusal? Or was there a lot more happening and this was a final straw?

I really like Jones as a player - I know he wasn't polished but loved his tenacity and determination. In reality we got about 3 more years out of him than we all expected at one stage.

Thanks for the entertainment!

I doubt he has given up a million bucks because he is pro-choice.
I know many people who are pro choice but still had the vaccine. Take the medicine, and then protest against the government mandate if that floats your boat.

I do wonder why they didn’t go with a model whereby if you’re not vaccinated, you can still play if you take an antigen test everyday. It does strike me as a bit strange that a vaccinated player (eg. From the Kangaroos) can have COVID but still keep his job however a non-van player without COVID must go.
I realise that the viral load and hence risk to self and others is generally lower in vaccinated people but still strikes me as a bit odd.

Similarly, a tennis player without COVID eg Novak might not be able to play at the Aussie Open but there could be 100 vaccinated people with COVID in the crowd on any given day.

Anyway, I’m pro-vax. I think most people who choose not to have the vaccinated are making the wrong - and irresponsible - choice. But I also think that most people who are vaccinated are safe from those who aren’t. Except for those who are particularly vulnerable for their own circumstances.)

Anyway, given Jones is giving up so much dosh, he must certainly have extremely strong convictions and is sticking to them. I just hope that this is not coming from some dodgy person abusing his trust of them.
