Swan McKay very good player in a very good team but I do think Kouta was a better player he was a very good player in mostly ordinary teams

It is at the margin and maybe recent recollection predominates over later recollection but I think Kouta was a more brilliant and more versatile player

Please don’t think that McKay wasn’t good he was bloody good just think Kouta was better

From my earliest memories Jezza, Bruce Doull and Southby, then through the 80's the mosquito fleet, Ken Hunter, Dominator and Harmes and through the 90's SOS and Macca, Kouta and Peter Dean. Really since then only Judd and Crippa stand out for me although I did get excited by a young Kennedy before we traded him.

Kouta was more versatile. He played CHF and CHB.
Don't think Swan could play ruck rover or wing.
Kouta was the supreme athlete of them all.

Swan was the best mark I saw ... I was young and impressionable back in the 70's and 80's

Agree Bondi good call Swan was a magnificent mark and looked so effortless in taking pack marks speccys etc
He floated across the packs and sometimes seemed to come from nowhere to take the mark

Played before him but thought he and Peter Knights were similar in their marking prowess and expertise

This pretty much nails it for me except, i'll amend slightly:
Late 70s (from when I was somewhat aware): Jezza, Jezza, Jezza, Doull, Southby
80s: Hunter, Dominator, Bosustow & the whole mosquito fleet (special mention to Ashman... & Catoggio's hair). And Harmes (although the shine has come off a bit since he outed himself as a Tigers supporter...).
Early 90s: Diesel (just about the best Carlton player I have seen), Sticks, Braddles, SOS
Late 90s: Kouta, SOS, McKay
Beyond 2000: Judd, Crippa, Walsh, Weitering (+ C Curnow, McKay...)

Special mentions:
- Dad always used to bang on about how ground-breaking Robert Walls was, and how brilliant David McKay was.
- How the hell did we go so well in 2000 with that team???
- Frank Marchesani - for winning the Grand Final sprint after Geoff Ablett had dominated in the years when we were too busy playing in GF's...

Absolutely Neil Chandler. Probably the first bloke I can remember Ron Barassi sent to stand in ''the hole''. Couldn't have been easy knowing the likes of Peter Hudson and Wes Lofts were thundering up behind you.

For the joy and excitement he brought during our darkest era (that we are hopefully coming out of), it has to be Fev - with all his fallibilities!

Most of the time, my son and I knew that we were going to lose, and were probably going to get a towelling.

It didnt matter!

From sticking his head into the opposition huddle; some spectacular run down tackles that he would then convert (he could chase when he wanted to); those long bomb goals from well outside 50 etc

My favorite memory was a Sunday twilight game at Docklands. The Doggies were beginning to run away with it. As halftime came, Fev strode uo to the goals and told us all to "stick around, theres going to be a show"!
There was. he kicked at least 6 that I can remember in the 2nd half and we won.

May the next favourite be the whole team

Is there a more serendipitous Triple Premiership Player in the history of the VFL/AFL?

He did. Bortolotto earned his keep in one of them (‘82) but literally had zero ground time in the other (‘81). He was the beneficiary of Southby (and Austin) being out injured for both GFs.

Mario played 30 games for 2 premierships. No touches in '81 & 7 disposals in '82.

Right place right time - Dual Premiership player
