Was touted as the next “John Nicholls” at the time.

I don't think he's been mentioned but I suddenly remembered Adrian DeLuca. Much maligned and definitely a whipping boy.

He drove me mad. Though I seem to recall one game against the Pies where he kicked a few and we got the choccies.

Not quite. He debuted in 2000

Same same...we were competing in the final when he came on board...2000 and the following year...up to our eyeballs in it...especially 2000...then Knight went across Kouta's knee.

Houla was hot...even his haircut and colour.
I let him in to the club coz he looked good...some Carlton fans were a tad jealous I think, so gave him heaps....prix :sly:

I agree. Some names are being thrown out who were players that didn’t make it but weren’t “whipping boys”. I think to qualify as “whipping boy” you need to have played a minimum of 40 games - ie. enough games for supporters to turn on you.

Agree

This removes Mitch McGovern (33), Athorn (30), Boekhurst (25), SMC (19), Doering (18), Andrew Merrington (18), Bootsma (14), Mick Martyn (13), O'Shea (11), Tarczon (11)

you got it spooky

I think the 40 game limit is fine.
McGovern gets in because he has played more than 40 games across two teams. And b/c of his namesake of the Marsh twins variety who is an all time classic cricket whipping boy!
Someone like Boekhorst was not really a whipping boy b/c he was never really up to it.
Houlihan, Campo, Murphy, Gibbs, Stevens, Plowman are some of those who fit the bill perfectly.

All good players too...maybe some posters Mrs should take some of the blame :sly: I always thought that TBH.

Hahaha, then there was that great time in TC history when he was possibly up for trade & we all got all pissy that the Hawks wouldn't give us pick 6 for him

Remember that like yesterday

he was one of our best back then...

IIRC that was first time CFC made a stand against trading. Pelchen was the Hawks LM. Never felt the same about Thornton after that.

Did they end up taking Mitch Thorp with that pick?

They actually would have won!

I remember the running thing on here was that DeLuca was italian for Two Grabs

I’m not sure who they ended up drafting with that pick.
Speaking of Thorpe, I remember there was talk, after he’d been let go by Hawks, about possibility of Blues drafting him.

Gee those were very tough times for CFC and supporters.
