There’s no way Williams has the tank to play wing, I’d prefer LOB to Williams in that position.

Agree, but I’d put Williams back in place of Boyd. Move Walsh to the wing, and bring Martin in to HFF. LOB just not strong enough in the contest and doesn’t hurt teams enough with his kicking justify his lack of competitiveness

Martin is far too good to not be in the best 22. If he’s fit, could you imagine going into a grand final and leaving him out? He’s a potential match winner

It's a decent team but I fear the same about Williams.
But I'd take Cottrell every time before LOB.

Did anyone see Williams finals series a few years ago as a mid? Has a great tank

Possibly, but there's a reason the club tried him for half a season in the midfield then moved him back to the back line and went and recruited Cerra and Hewett

I saw him trying to play as a mid last year for Carlton. His endurance was poor.
No doubt he could be a very good midfielder if he prepared adequately but he hasn't to date.

My thoughts exactly apart from playing Cottrell instead of LOB.

Sure was. I thought that was public knowledge.

I would back Andrew Russell, Williams’ desire to play Finals, Vossy’s expectations and Williams’ pride to see Zac back primed for Finals. If not, he misses out.

I’m not writing off anyone to play any position Vossy invites them to play.

Williams Young McGovern
Docherty Weitering Saad
Cerra Walsh Cottrell
Martin McKay Fisher
Silvagni Curnow Owies
Pittonet Cripps Hewett

Kennedy DeKoning
Durdin Newman

Setterfield

Plowman Marchbank Boyd O’Brien Hayes Newnes Motlop Honey

I feel like I’m missing a wing rotation, with Martin perhaps the most vulnerable in the 22.

Conundrum I think we have in the lead up to finals is how to get Marchbank in the team given the backline suddenly looks stocked

We want our best 26 fit and firing in the lead up to finals. What that looks like is interesting.

Players like Marchbank and Plowman competing is a great problem to have, as is JSOS, Pittonet and TDK, as is Honey, Durdin, Martin, Motlop and Owies, as is Newnes, Setterfield, LoB, Hayes and Cots.

My turn…

B: Williams Young McGovern
HB: Saad Weitering Docherty
C: Fisher Cripps Cottrell
HF: Walsh McKay Silvagni
F: Owies C.Curnow C.Durdin

R: Pittonet Hewitt Cerra

Inter: Kennedy, Newman, Setterfield, TDK
Sub: Martin

Williams and/or Newman could be changed to Plowman, Boyd or Stocker and I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. A fit & firing Marchbank would trump them all, but he has had so little footy over the last 3 years that I can’t justify selecting him ahead of the others at this point. If he gets some continuity in the last month of the season, I reserve the right to change my mind!

My team’s pretty similar to Cecil’s, but I’ve gone with Setterfield ahead of Martin in the 22 for the extra wing rotation. That spot is still very much up for grabs IMO, but I’ll go with Setterfield ahead of LOB, Hayes & Newnes for now.

Another change I’d seriously consider to the above team is Martin into the 22 for Silvagni (or possibly TDK), if we’re worried about being a little too tall.

Motlop & Honey show promise, but I can’t select them ahead of Owies & C.Durdin who had a good thing going before Owies got injured. A fit Cunningham would be well and truly in the mix here but, like Marchbank, I can’t justify putting him in my best team at the moment.
