Yeah , i like that GEx . I agree , We are not that far away . We just have to play the whole game without lapses . No switching off . Also agree we don't need to go crazy with trades , just a couple of astute pickups .

I posted this on an other site but I feel it also sits here in this discussion.

We are definitely on the right track, both on and off field now. We haven’t been in such a spot since then 90’s.
M Voss is the right person. P Cripps is the right leader. This group are the right group. We have talent and depth.
We just need to believe in ourselves, fix our injury issues and get consistent with our game.

I don't think that's the plan. This year was all about getting the basics in play. Contested ball, tackling, defensive patterns and I reckon we improved a lot. We were coming from a long way back.

I expect this pre season a lot more refinement and improved connection between mids & forwards. A mainly injury free run would help dramatically as well

One thng clear from these finals is that pressure is paramount. I am not even sure how important game style is in that regard.
Defensive structure also. You could see on the telecast, Pendlebury and Sidebottom running back when they were in front to fill holes and otnumber Geelong in the D50. Our leaders failed at that task.

I reckon you’re onto it Mick. We’ve got the right blokes, they’re just drawn too far from home with our slow movement between the arcs.

Solving the half forward zone is the #1 goal for the off-season.

Writing on the wall for the likes of Fisher, Fogarty, Martin, Honey, Philp & Cuningham. If what’s rumoured rings true and Ed has got another year in him, then I couldn’t imagine a better magic pill to drop into this group.

i would like us to do what Collingwood does. The forwards lead to the central corridor and we kick it to a dangerous position of the ground. We either mark it or create scatter ball in a dangerous position.

We always lead to the pockets. Makes goal kicking more difficult and doesnt make us dangerous enough to crumb the ball next to the goals.

Also if we bunch up in the corridor the opposition cant run it out as easy due to the numbers around the ball.

And i would like us to run and handball and short kick close to the forward 50 and then release.

i think that’s a fair call. but there’s nothing we could have done about it too perhaps. they had to learn that lesson the hard way. nothing will be taken for granted next season. many footy world commentators were super excited by Baggers this season and consequently pumped us up and now have décalée the season a fail
because of not making/winning finals. that’s okay. it’s a good lesson to learn before ewe have key position players in their last season (apologies to Newnes)

also we’re still developing the mental side of the game. turning east beat clubs around in any sport is not easy at the elite level. we’ve done heaps right, and the pain of those near misses will be worth gold next season.

Yeah , that was the " Something aint right in Denmark " day .


i got piégeons droppings from some for saying we we still vulnerable when we were top four. all i meant by that was it’s a tough run home, an unprecedentedly even season amongst the, say, top 12 level in terms of predicting home and away game results.

Carlton Coach Michael Voss is a (former) Brownlow Medallist. How many (if any) Brownlow winning coaches have gone on to coach one of his players to a Brownlow?

Bill Hutchinson won two under Dick Reynolds in 52/53.

Denis Ryan in 36 under Hayden Bunton.
