Keep both. They still have time on their side and the talent to make it in positions we need filled. Freak injury in the form of a knee reconstruction is just bad luck.

Definitely keep both. Plenty of good football left in them.

The long term injuries to Charlie, Marchbank and Docherty have had a significant impact on our progress over the past few years.

Charlie was the really big one, but it’s easy to forget how good Marchbank was in 2017/2018. Here’s a reminder:

If he can get back to that level, imagine how good it would be to have him working alongside Weitering.

Admittedly, that’s a very big “if”…

We can add Mitch McGovern , 4 players quality players on reasonable salaries, that just can’t get on to the park with any consistency.
This would stifle and challenge any Coach and his team, really bad luck.
We need expertise to help unravel this huge mess we’ve been in for over a decade.
Some good luck would great too.

And he's still only 24 and should be able to take over from Jones.
But it's a big if.

Personally I don’t see him as a replacement for Jones. Marchbank is not suited to play on the gorillas. You’d want him in the back 6/7 supporting Weitering & Jones. His intercept marking and ability to play on taller and mobile types would complement Saad/Williams too.

Keep until end of contract then reassess. Need to recruit a spare for each of their roles, though, since we cannot plan around them.

That sounds fair.

I think McGovern is a better replacement for Jones.

Did we de-list Jones?

Oscar Macdonald is the heir elect for Jones. He's a better player than people think he is and there's no disgrace falling out of that Melbourne team.

Oscar’s in the same category as Marchbank, McGovern, C Curnow and Cuningham. Injury prone and rarely sighted.

Oscar looked good in preseason
Don’t think he is as injury prone as the other 2
A good back up to Jones and Weitering

I thought Oscar had a pretty clean injury history when he signed with us. Only thing I can find on Google is a minor ankle injury and concussion in 2016, missing more games from the concussion than the ankle.

Key words there are “when he signed with us”.

All bets are off once we sign them.

I haven't forgotten.

Thanks for the link.

Love this player. He's so mobile, quick and great intercept mark.

If only....

If Russell says he can rebuild them both then keep.

If Russell is less than 100% sure, then cull.

I suspect Cunners is a walk up fix, but Mr Tissue Paper is decidedly iffy. Since TAC days I have never thought Marchy had the body that would hold up to the rigours of AFL.

Regards Cazzesman.
